A nine race program awaits us at glorious Townsville this afternoon, and as always, The Mugs have got you sorted. We are racing on a Soft 5 and the rail is out 5.5m from the 1000m to the Winning Post and then 4m for the remainder.
I didn't put sunscreen on at golf yesterday, so the omen bet pops up early. Well Charred goes around in the opener for Jim Fogarty and Chris Whiteley in a 2YO race. The son of Sizzling has placed in three of his four career races and looks to be able to control the speed from the inside alley. Double your money early.
Such A Wit backers would have been on an emotional rollercoaster, and thankfully for them, someone hit Lepreezy with a sniper at the 50m at Mackay. He should be hard to beat, but that would be the easy way out. What do they say about the roughie in the small field? We'll tell ya! They go goooood!. Heyington is a stupid price at $13 against just three rivals, and while they will only pay out for a winning bet, we can't talk you out of throwing a tenner on him at that price. He has never missed the place at 1200m and faces easier opposition.
Another field of four in the third presents us with out bet of the day. Cinnamon Missile for the John Manzelmann stable has shown plenty of potential in harder races, finishing fourth and fifth in the Rocky and Townsville Cup last year despite being a Class 3 galloper. He ran second behind Tunero just seven days ago at Townsville and he now drops back to 1400m and takes 4.5kg off his back. Bobby El-Issa got Centrefire home yesterday for our #MozzasMustHave and he will be going back to back on #LloydysLock.
We've had bets in the first three races and now we've got a podcast to record. We'll be back at Race 7!
Bollente is a name not many people will know, so let us shed some light. The 2020 Longreach Cup winner is a champion at the Non-TAB's in Country Queensland, with wins at Longreach, Barcaldine, Mount Isa, Cloncurry, Isisford and Richmond. He won his most recent start by 4.75L with 64kg on his back, defeating Van Winkel who missed in a photo in the Country Cups Final at Rockhampton last Friday, so the form has been franked. Barrier five sees him in the one-one and he should prove too strong.
Not sure when they'll learn... Potawatomi has won his last three starts and we are still getting $15 about the six-year-old. He does go from a Class 1 to a BM60, but he drops half a kilo and stays at his favoured 1400m distance. Bonnie Thompson knows the gelding well and shouldn't be too far away from barrier two. Each-way all day.
Hopefully we are ahead by now, so we will take a rain check on the last race of the day. We liked That's Two Slabs, but he has been scratched, so the money we would have had on him, we might go and buy ourselves a slab or two - put the feet up, crack open a cold one and get ready for the footy!
