We are well and truly in off season racing here in Queensland with the weather and new season almost upon us. We are back at Doomben today and will be racing on a soft 5 track with the rail out seven and a half metres for the entire course and the first race to jump at 12.33pm.
Race 1: MAIDEN (1350M)
Two Waller runners here with both the senior jockeys on. I think Ben Thompson has rightfully got the pick of them though and happy to be Stylish Edition who was running on late, last start at Ipswich and can improve here.
Race 2: MAIDEN (1350M)
The favourite again Moscow Mule looks the bet here out of a really slowly run race and with an even tempo and the fact it was well in the market should hold it in good stead here.
Race 3: MAIDEN (1200M)
No bet this race.
Race 4: Class 3 (1200M)
Well fair to say that Extreme Diamond was a good thing licked last start and just simply should have won. Does go up a few kilos here and I thought Ruins of Rome did enough fresh. That simply isn’t his go but gets give in the ground today, and has a super second up record, who loves Doomben. Happy to play that way at the slightly better price.
Race 5: Benchmark 65 (1350M)
Pretty keen to stay out here, there are the two shorties but I almost feel like this is a roughie race here and neither fills me with a great deal of confidence.
Race 6: Benchmark 65 (1350M)
I thought this race lacked a bit of tempo and for that reason if Nails and Pride can lead them off I think Grand Crusader will be able to camp just off the pace and be the one here. Excels over this trip and will relish a little give in the track.
Race 7: Class 5 (1110M)
Track specialist here in Carravilla for the in form Munce team is the way to play this on. Will sit off them on a hot speed but with a race this late in the day, should be able to round them up assuming the inside is not the place to be late.
Race 8: Benchmark 68 (1650M)
Well ready to ignite will surely lead them off here and try to go one better today so we will need Luton Hoo to take it on. If that does happen I thought Smart as Smart worked home well from the back. Once again assuming the inside if off and wider lanes are better late this looks a nice each-way bet to end the day.
