The Mugs Trial Files - Doomben 31/08/2021

Writer: Mugs PuntingMugs Punting

Bloody hell Mugs, we do bloody everything up here for QLD Racing! What we had this morning was 20 plus trials go around Doomben,

Now I've learned over time that 840m trials are shorter don't really tell ya much, so we've stuck with the 1000m heats to see if we can find a few winners.

Have a read through and look for these names in the future

1000m Trials

Trial 1 – Group + Listed

Time: 57.91 Winner: Rothfire (Rob Heathcote) Notes: Rothfire and Jonker did what we expected, both jumped on speed and weren’t asked to do much. Tambo’s Mate the sneaker, wanted to go but pretty well restrained.

Trial 2 – Open

Time: 59.73 Winner: Sir Warwick (Jake Capewell) Notes: Sir Warwick the eye catcher, sat wide the trip, saddled up to Arthur In Charge (midweeker) and put them away pretty easy. Nothing else stood out

Trial 3 – Open

Time: 59.20 Winner: Contemptuous (O’Dea + Hoysted) Notes: Contemptuous did it easy but is fit and in full flight. Jumped and led, probably what they wanted.

Trial 4 – Class 2

Time: 1:00.49 Winner: Better Get Set (O’Dea + Hoysted) Notes: Winner did it comfortably, one to follow, the stablemate Express Dreams was impressive, sat wide never asked for an effort and hit the line nicely, lightly raced 6YOM, form up and around the mile.

Trial 5 – Class 2

Time: 1:00.09 Winner: Sidewalk (J Walk) Notes: Don’t know what to make of this trial, the winner cruised but seemed a pretty weak trial. Madam Mo was pretty well restrained, look for on a soft track, Merseyside looked to do it easy, was $2 on debut so don’t think we’ll get a price.

Trial 6 – Class 2

Time: 59.91 Winner: Danezel (Rob Heathcote) Notes: Foxy Rippa jumped a dream and just wanted to go, Brazen Princess and Danezel did it easy but looked to be a bit more pace, Jakkalberry Finn is the one to take from this one, very easy jockey fee there.

Trial 7 – Maiden

Time: 59.83

Winner: Bi Turbo (D Forster) Notes: Il Calzino and Single Memo showed early pace; Single Memo never got out of gear, the one to follow, Bi Turbo and Bad Education scrubbed up

Trial 8 - Maiden

Time: 1:00.41 Winner: Furnace on Fire (O’Dea + Hoysted) Notes: Rodian Bull didn’t want to go in, missed the jump with More Than Venice (finished off well), Big Fonz under work a long way out, Furnace on Fire led and smashed them, get on now at 1.20

Trial 9 - Maiden

Time: 1:00.72 Winner: A Call From Heaven (T Gollan) Notes: Blanket finish, Call From Heaven set the pace, The Virus came home under riding, not a lot going on here

Trial 10 – Maiden

Time: 1:00.12 Winner: Anarchy (K Schweida) Notes: Anarchy led without any pressure, Zavaboom who the hell knows what was going on there, restrained then bolted and stuck on well. Far Reaching returns as a gelding and looked one to follow, Natalieann another one that worked home really well from last.

Trial 11 – Maiden

Time: 59.99 Winner: Karoake Queen (O’Dea + Hoysted) Notes: Thought Moon Stalker + Pressure and Time were the two to follow, both looked pretty comfortable throughout, both come through (we’re spaced) the Maotai race who’ll be competitive in Group Races this Spring so worth the follow.

Trial 12 – Maiden

Time: 59.60 Winner: Gauntlet (C Anderson) Notes: Geez Nijiko just wanted to get on with it, some serious speed there, Gauntlet had nothing to do but sit off and put them away, gapped the rest. Hard trial to gauge

Trial 13 – 20

840m Trials Trials this short are a complete waste of time for analysis in my humble, too short to gauge how a horse jumps, settles, gets into stride, gauge fitness etc.
