Eagle Farm, the rail was hot, a controversial protest and some HASHTAG STRADBROKE SEASON contendors stepped back out. Here's the Mug's take on the weekend that was.
Eagle Farm Racecourse - Rail +0.5m - Good 3
Race 1 - QTIS 2YO C&G- 1000m
Winner: Debussy $1.75 FAV
Time: 0:59.14
#THEY knew! There was plenty of hype around this first starter, but when a 2YO opens on debut it goes one or two ways, thankfully for Team Edmonds it went very well. 2YO racing consist of jumping, leading and winning and that's what we saw here. Vantan Express looked to be hitting the line well for the step up next trip, but Debussy has the racing pattern that will certain win him a lot of races.
Race 2 - QTIS 2YO Fillies- 1000m
Winner: Stellar Magic $2.50 FAV
Time: 0:58.7
The faster of the two juvenile races here with Stellar Magic saluting what we think is a pretty good form line with Startantes and Military Gambler as pre winter racing heats up. Baylee knows how to get the job done, she took cover this time and was able to put them away with a turn of foot. It's too early to follow too many of out of these races until the compete a little but the winner is a cut above and looks to be on to bigger races.
Race 3 - BM85 HCP - 1600m
Winner: Guise $4.80
Time: 1:37.74
Wow where do we start. 'The apprentice' had 1550m to get Unbiased off the fence, yeah nup, Steph mustv'e gotten a rocket put up her for the butcher on Slow Hands last start and Guise get's it gifted after Jay Jay Dar and Word for Word race outside their normal racing pattern, but hey just remember there's no such thing as team riding. Was a messy race; would love to see some speed in for Unbiased next start.
Race 4 - Benchmark 78 - 2200m
Winner: Traduce $6.50
Time: 2:19.28
Traduce was certainly ridden a lot more conservative and it paid dividends for King Bobby Fradd. Joymaker just gets too far back in big fields like this and a few others raced like tired horses. Again, not a lot to take from it. They'll all line up in 2 weeks again so judge them then.
Race 5 - Daybreak Lover Winner: Apache Chase $2.20 FAV
Time: 1:23.82
If any of the jockeys are reading this, it's probably because they've just woken up. Byrne knew what he had to do and he did it, this gelding goes best untested out in front and that's what happened here. The early murmurs are a potenital Stradbroke berth through the Fred Best and honestly what can beat him? Ayrton will have to compete in that race, Isotope to be freshened up for the Spring and Gotta Kiss has an excuse after she showed she bled from one nostril (3 month ban). Mass Destruction we think needs to take a forward position; he seems lay out behind horses, would love to see him roll along and take on the speed otherwise can't see the tables being reversed next time out. A bit late to the party but following Apache Chase in the Fred Best.
Race 6 - Class 3 Plate - 1200m
Winner: Dr Why Not - $5
Time: 1:11.60
Talk about TOUGH - Here is the replay; watch this battle the last 200m
And and a huge shout out to Sherro for riding his first metro winner, oh what? It's not, oh I guess that's why you should follow the Mugs and not some other platform.
With a fair few scratching's morning of, this race was left messy with Leadership Spill set to do it on his own. By this stage of the day the fence was not the place to be, Euro Belle was massive running home in the right part of the track With that being said we'll be following Daring Belle who we should be able to get a price about next time. The apprentice found the worst spot in the straight and got caught when trying to come home. Is up and fit and if we can find a similar race she'll go close and big odds.
Race 7 - Open HCP - 1200m
Winner: Get Stuck In $10
Time: 1:25.71
Well well well, we'll let you make up your own mind here Mugs.
Protest Upheld. Here's the replay
Here's the justification.
So You Win was a great run first up for a horse that won't say boo to anything below a mile.
Race 8 - Ascot HCP - 1000m
Winner: Zaniah $21
Time: 0:58.13
I wouldn't get too excited about a Straddy Smokey here Mugs, race set up perfect for the swoopers - Master Jamie has returned monster here. Ran an extra 100m in that straight and hit the line sharply. Vega One crossed the line hard held, which is funny because I remember a jock doin some hard time for doing the same thing! But all in all, the big guns have returned well.
Race 9 - NMW HCP - 1400m
Winner: Enterprise Keren $11
Time: 1:25.33
Westlink backers look away; I don't know how you lose it from there, honestly *COUGHJOCKCOUGH* but Enterprise Keren makes it 5 from 15 and is putting together a handy record which is great to know after the event isn't it! Sally Pops the intresting runner, 1600m up to 2100m back to 1400m here? Looks like a sharpener for the mile so will interested to see where she goes next, but the winner, too good, simple as that.
Win of the Day: Stellar Magic
So You Win: Easy to spot in the Winx colours, beyond a mile is the go, could be an outside the box player in a few listed races come the winter
