Sunshine Coast Preview 11/04/2021

Writer: Mugs PuntingMugs Punting

In racing, there’s no such things as Group 1 hangover! We reload the accounts and drive up the Bruce until we hit the Sunshine Coast.

The weather‘s been kind and the track starts the day as a Soft 7, with the rail out 3m. With some sunshine scheduled we may see that improve throughout the day.

Nothing gets the blood pumping more than 2YO maidens but after celebrating Anamoe’s Sires win all night by screaming give me AnaMORE drinks all night, it’ll be the perfect change to grab an Ice Break, 4 pandol, pull out the notebook out and look for something to jump out leading into the Winter Carnival.

Ok, enough sitting on the sidelines.

Race 3 we see a maiden field go around from the 1000m chute. Hangry was a beaten favourite on debut and one of those that beat her home was Tallahassee Lassie. With the apprentice Jaden Lloyd engaged, the lightly raced five year old gets a handy 2.5KG swing in her favour. She was just as tough if not tougher holding 3 wide and finishing off well on a Heavy Sunny Coast track.

We have a time honoured 3YO 0-62 Handicap in Race 4; which is ironic because The Mugs have 0 interest in this one. The Back When ship has sailed for us, beaten its last 3 in the shorts; it seems to be D-Day today for the favourite.

Race 5 we see the handicappers stretch out to the 1400m with Wowsers the early favourite. He’ll be rock hard fit now but the Mugs are just wary of the soft track; Main De Foi does her best work over the mile but we think she’ll get the run to suit today. Metson the obvious speed in the race. This daughter of Better Than Ready can sit in the one-one from barrier 2 and rely on the legs wanting further to attack the line at her home track.

3:09pm Race 6 Maiden = Grab a beer

3:47pm Race 7 BM58 = Grab another beer

We‘re taking the easy way home in the last 2 Mugs; so let’s get a juicy little Sunday Multi going!

Miss Canada here first up, Byrne engaged for the Lees yard is the obvious here. She drops out of Group 2 form to contest the Class 2 Plate and with 2 trials leading up to this event, she should be forward enough for Australian Bloodstock.

Derulo heads the market in the Get Out Stakes and lines up for the first time for the team at Fogden Racing. The former North Queensland superstar will look fo push forward from barrier 11 and looks to be in for bigger and better things this prep.
