Sunshine Coast | August 23

Writer: Mugs PuntingMugs Punting

Bit of a change of pace this Wednesday for midweek racing as we head up the Bruce Highway off to the Sunshine Coast for this meeting. It is an eight race card and we will be racing on what will be a good 4 track with the rail in the true position for the entire course and the first race to jump at 1.08pm.

Race 1: MAIDEN (1800M)

An 1800M maiden to start the day is not getting the mugs up and about that is for sure. Happy to let this one go.

Race 2: MAIDEN (1000M)

Well it certainly doesn’t get any easier but siding with Borrelli from barrier two with Orman on and rail in the true I think the rail will be fresh ground and leaders will be mighty hard to run down here.

Race 3: Class 6 (1000M)

Well surely, surely Jemeldi can get it done here. The best form in Queensland is Ned’s Gully form and second to that is probably Vodka Martini form and Jemeldi has both. Loves this track and will be handy to the speed and with Ben Thompson on will be mighty hard to beat.

Race 4: MAIDEN (1000M)

Another utter lottery here. I am having a dig at Soo Sweet with two prior runs and from the draw she will be close in the run and form in behind Russian Alliance looks ok for a race like this. Comes off a tune up trial leading in and if Mallyon puts her in the race then she could break the maiden here.

Race 5: Benchmark 70 (1800M)

Well getting back out to the 1800M here and I have to be with the last start winner in Sheza Firecracker going for four on the bounce. Bailey Wheeler has been airborne and with the three kilo claim and barrier one she will be handy and with four wins from ten starts at this track and a lot of winners coming out of race she has won the form stacks up.

Race 6: Class 2 (1200M)

Well we will not be getting the $100 here but I think you need to be with Fastling here with the Ned’s Gully form. The pace will be on with Tres Redoute leading them off and if Fastling can sit handier to the speed and if the splits come late with two kilos off the back he will be flying past them late.

Race 7: Class 1 (1600M)

Off a freshen up and one run Esky looked to peak on the run late. Orman hops on here for Waller and from barrier seven he will be much closer than second last in run like last start. On a good deck with plenty of straight to wind up and Jimmy will get him home.

Race 8: Benchmark 65 (1400M)

Naval Trader was a complete forgive first up being stuck for a run by Jayanthi the eventual winner and Ben Thompson jumps aboard and I think is seeing what I am seeing. He closed off well in that run to finish third and three weeks between runs he will be fresh and ready to fire here.
