Sunshine Coast | August 21

A trip up the Bruce highway to continue the mid-week racing up here in what is now Sunny Queensland after a week where there was hardly a horse racing. We will be racing on a heavy 8 track with we have the rail out three metres for the entire course and the first race to jump at 1.11pm.

Race 1: MAIDEN (1000M)

Pretty simple, no bet.

Race 2: Class 4 (1000M)

Nice little race here with the locals filling out most of the spots. Thelwell has been good his last couple and after a nice trial win, almost perfect stats here at the track and solid heavy form, he is the one to beat here.

Race 3: MAIDEN (1600M)

Betathaneva is the play here for the Jenkins team. Comes to this race fourth up to fitness on the heavy track should be no concern. He was second behind Isle Ornsay who won well again the other day at Ipswich so that form has been franked. Yes wide alley here but depending on how the track plays out wider on fresher ground could be the place to be.

Race 4: Benchmark 68 (1800M)

It was simply a sword job last time this bloke hit the track and Jack Bruce coming from the Maher team knows something about distance racing. Singer Sargent is drawn well to sit just behind the speed and then he will unleash that finishing burst in conditions that really suit him.

Race 5: Class 1 (1800M)

A pretty tough race here and even though the favourite Meat Pie Artie is yet to get over the trip like this I think he is the one to beat here. He has placed before over the mile and he is well into the preparation so fitness should be no issue. From the low draw he will be stalking the leaders and relishes ground with a bit of give in it.

Race 6: MAIDEN (1300M)

Another maiden here and I think Assemble can break through for the Waller army. Mallyon aboard from a middle alley and conditions to his liking he did enough fresh to give him a real hope second up over a more suitable trip.

Race 7: Class 1 (1200M)

Been A Secret has been super this preparation filling out all the placings. She was brave behind Caspernova who looks very classy and then has won since on the poly beating home Bucks Fizz who won yesterday at Grafton. The form has certainly been franked and with all the scratching’s and heavy track form she is a great bet here.

Race 8: Benchmark 65 (1200M)

We finish the day and pay homage to the great Robert Redford and boy will he be hard to beat for the Kendrick team. He has two runs down South before shifting up here and while they have both been on good decks they were super wins. Bailey Wheeler on who is simply airborne and while he does get back there looks enough tempo to set it up nicely for him.
