Six of the best out of Callaghan Park on Tuesday afternoon under blue skies and sunshine. The track is a Soft 5 and the rail is out 4.5m
Race 1: 2YO Handicap (1050m)
It's a race in two in the opener between I'lltellyougo and Astra Star. Both youngsters are coming off last-start wins, but I'm siding with the #RockyForm. Astra Star actually had the measure of the filly in a barrier trial before they made their respective debuts on the same day albeit in different races, where the colts went a touch quicker overall. He's third-up today and should enjoy a good solid tempo.
Race 2: Open Handicap (1050m)
Just Super looks a put-in, take-out job here, coming off back-to-back thirds in strong races. Last start, he tackles the Capricornia Yearling Sales 3&4YO Classic, running a very good third under a big weight and overcoming a wide draw. Under The Cap has run well in Brisbane since, while Track Tale won well at Townsville last week. He'll enjoy the 2.5kg weight relief and the soft draw.
Race 3: Maiden Plate (1300m)
Low, low race. Having a peanut on Biker at any old price. Although the closest he's ever been to the winner was 6.46L, a lot of these are in a similar boat. Georgie Cartwright goes on, and trainer Stephen Rundle is notorious for a $51 winner.
Race 4: 0-55 Handicap (1050m)
Jungle Beat trials like Tarzan and races like Jane, but the day that he races like Tarzan, they won't see which way he goes. He trounced Awol in a barrier trial before getting beaten at Gladstone, and then lapped Under The Cap in another trial, before failing to beat a runner home at Thangool and most recently getting beaten 6.4L there again. Drawn 5 with Fenlon engaged, he could be off and gone. Hold your breath, close your eyes, cross your fingers etc etc
Race 5: BM65 Handicap (1200m)
I thought Barney Rabble jumped out very good and then he backed that up with a good second on Archer Day behind the heavily backed Divine Okay. Second-up, out to 1200m and Ryan Wiggins aboard, he should get every chance to go one better. Hopefully he can land one out, one back and be strongest late.
Race 6: BM58 Handicap (1400m)
Jared Wehlow's All The Shops was backed as if unbeatable two back behind Hangin' Around and he didn't fire a single shot. The money was left in the bag there! He was six weeks between runs there and 1100m to 1400m, so there was enough excuses. He was much better behind the heavily tried Touch Of Gracie last start over 1300m on Archer Day. He gets a 2kg swing on Hangin' Around from two starts ago too.
