Throw away your form guides; it's going to be a SIZZLING hot Rocky Highway up there today. With a high of 29 degrees and celebratory beers atop Mount Archer, the Mugs are coming in SWINGING.
Race 1: QTIS Three-Year-Old Class 2 Handicap (1200 METRES)
It feels like this bunch of horses clashes every single week. The reason they're all still Class 2 horses is that they take turns winning! That's why the Mugs have the info on whose turn it is today! Electric Brae starts our day off on a winning note. It was a smart winner on debut and then got the red carpet into town as a 2YO. First up this prep, they elected to go to a genuine Saturday grade race at the Sunshine Coast. Unfortunately, it was game over when it missed the jump but bravely battled on to get within 3L of Mister Bianco (who should be a Saturday winner) and Toro Strike (who was brave in defeat at the midweek metro). That form line is simply... SUPERIOR.
Race 2: BENCHMARK 70 Handicap (1600 METRES)
Things line up perfectly for Cusack here: drying track, back to Rocky, and the cheat code J. Hux on board. It's a #MUSTWIN.
Cusack jumped as a $2 favorite last start at Mackay and was just hindered on entering the straight. That made the cocaine-faced chestnut work a little harder and ultimately become a sitting duck on the line.
Cusack had Pepperdine covered last time they clashed and gets a favorable weight swing today. Yes, please.
Race 3: Maiden Handicap (1100 METRES)
I keep getting beaten by a horse named No Bet, so I'm going to jump on him here.
Race 4: Class 5 Handicap (1050 METRES)
There are a few famous Rockhampton combos that we could mention that would most likely get us canceled, but Ryan Wiggins and Ricky Vale are not one of them! The pair strike at 30% together this season.
They team up here with Pretty Slick, and the 5YO mare is just that.
She has only missed the placings once here at Rocky. With the favorite Enabler being as reliable as a Chris Waller horse going to where he says they're going, he's a BIG RISK. The only concern is the drying track, but I think she's a class animal against this lot.
Race 5: 0 - 55 Handicap (1100 METRES)
A handy little race with some handy little horses. Whitsunday Session is a layer's delight. Humour Me is 0/3 first up, and Mil Cilento is still trying to finish its last 4 races where it started favorite.
Box 1-4-5 in a trifecta because you're a Mug, but this is a No Bet race.
Race 6: OPEN Handicap (1300 METRES)
Gotta love these NQ Open Handicaps! Stampe, remember him? How about Sir Rocket? Oh, the memories...
Anyway, Bazinga territory here; having a 2-way play! Fighting Commando has done nothing wrong this prep and can settle in the perfect position. Letmeletgo is another one who's had a terrific prep. He boasts a win over Honkytonk Diva, who turned the tables in the Newmarket. He's just another one who will settle in the perfect position to be saved for one last run.
At around $8 for both of them, I'll be playing!
Race 7: Class 3 Handicap (1300 METRES)
Nick Walsh dominates the market with fresh NQ'er Hellish. He jumps from a CL1 up to a CL3 here, and I think that in itself is reason to shop around!
Shopping around to the stable next door, Hangin' Around
The stable is always flying, but 2/2 at the 1300m trip is wheelhouse territory for this boy. He'll appreciate the drying track, and after not performing well in the Mackay Guineas, finds himself back down in grade, with a kind barrier to sit midfield and have the turn of foot to come over the stable mate who might be found paddling.
Race 8: 0 - 55 Handicap (1500 METRES)
Bringing back #WIGGOINTHELAST and think he can return himself to Street Glory.
1 win from 24 starts, which was a very long time ago now. HOWEVER, the list of horses she's run into includes the likes of Pepperdine, All The Shops, Desert Moon, Top Spy, etc.
SP players will be loving her today at 7's, but she'll have the run of the race from barrier 1. Replace The Ace looks the likely leader on paper, but with quite a long tail, there could be some classic Shenanigans early.
Watch her stick to the rail and sneak up on them late to notch up her first win since her maiden in 2022. GULP.
