Queenslanders doing us proud

Queenslanders can make their presence felt across the country on Saturday, with a number of locally trained gallopers headed to Rosehill; while a fan favourite will go to Bendigo for the club’s feature mile.

After tasting Group 1 glory with Krone a fortnight ago in the Coolmore, Brian Dais & Kelly Schwieda are having a crack themselves in both the 2000M Rosehill Guineas and the 1100M The Galaxy.

While both The Cullinan and The Odyssey are despised outsiders in their respected races, the drying Rosehill track and favourable barriers will give them at least a fair crack at them.

Michael Costa also sends south his consistent mare Willo Titto to compete in the Group 3 Epona Stakes over 1900M for fillies and mares. The $81 chance has drawn the outside alley, but will be aided by the wet track and the lack of speed in the race. She is racing well and will carry plenty of fitness with her.

One filly who is at the opposite end of the market is one of our top three-year-olds; Isotope. Trained by Tony Gollan, the daughter of Deep Field will be looking to make amends when she fell in the 3YO Magic Millions Guineas at the Gold Coast in January. Having been backed from as much as $6 into $2.90, she will not only be carrying the hopes of Queensland Racing fans, but punters around the country too.

Further south in Victoria, crowd favourite The Candy Man will be having a crack at the Golden Mile at Bendigo. The big grey was luckless at the Gold Coast a fortnight ago when first up and drops 4kg into this. There will be some sting out of the ground at Bendigo which will suit the people’s champ.

Good luck to all Queenslanders this weekend!
