Eagle Farm | May 6

Stradbroke Season is well and truly underway here in Queensland. The Archer has been and gone, Warrnambool is on down in Victoria and mid-week racing in Queensland is back to nine race cards at headquarters. We will be racing on a soft 6 track with the rain we copped overnight and have the rail out twelve metres for the entire course and the first race to jump at 11.57am.

Race 1: MAIDEN (1000M)

The first of the day is a tough little race with lightly raced horses everywhere. Our Girl Scarlett comes through a nice trial leading into this and while she did mix form last preparation happy to lean that way in a wide open race.

Race 2: MAIDEN (1000M)

Keep this race simple, for the young horses we like them drawn in to hug that rail and with Maloney and Gollan combining here on Peirata’s Spirit that is good enough for me even at the shorts.

Race 3: MAIDEN (1400M)

The favourite here Uncommon Daisy is sure to improve second up but did get its chance first up at the Sunshine Coast. I thought this race was a bit more wide open than that. With both the Aviator who should be closer in the run and Saturdays Girl who looked to figure it out last start coming down the outside. Happy to play both those roughies and take on the favourite here.

Race 4: Handicap (1300M)

Well if Coastal Boom ran straight last start it would have won, so off the back of that and barrier three with Ben Thompson sticking I think he can hug the rail similar to last start and should hand the potential sting out of the track.

Race 5: Handicap (1800M)

Three year olds over the 1800M preparing for perhaps a bigger target later in the winter up here in Queensland. Sir Winnie has been the form line for a few of these horses and over this trip this preparation. Castello Grande out of Castelvecchio lines up here after going out to 2000M and getting beaten less than two lengths. Chillaxing has since won and I think he is the one who can get back to the winners circle today.

Race 6: Class 1 (1200M)

Another pretty competitive class 1 here but I am sticking with the last start winner in Valencia Roc. She was great first up peeling off them and holding off a fast finishing Bon Vader. She draws perfectly again to get a similar run sitting just off the tempo and with the weight relief and Ben Thompson sticking with I think she can go two for two this preparation.

Race 7: Class 3 (1000M)

Interesting race this class three with a few of these first up and others sticking to the 1000M trip so plenty to dissect. While Braveheart was impressive last start not sure about the back to 1000M here so happy to risk him. Out of the others there doesn’t look like loads of competition for Vein Girl, who flies fresh, stable are simply airborne and with Courtney Bellamy taking the claim are very well in a race like this. The soft track is the slight query but think the favourite can be winning here.

Race 8: Benchmark 78 (1600M)

This is quite a handy little race of the mugs mile here at the farm in the penultimate of the day and there is one who I am quite keen on. The Irish just draws to do no work, has a few outside it that will take it up like Rattle and Hum, Thinkhardandfast and Grinzinger Knight which should set it up perfectly. He won fresh and while he sticks to similar trip with Michael Rodd on punters should be able to launch late in the day.

Race 9: Class 1 (1600M)

We end the day over the mile again and this certainly is not a lock and load race either. The way I have leant is towards Summation for Chris Anderson and buckets Moor. While the horse does like to drift back and barrier two might be a little sticky I am hoping Daniel can sit a little closer to the speed. He was too far back last start behind Duomo but was the best out of the pack by a long way and he gets to this race peaking third up.
