Doomben | May 27

Headquarters becomes the centre stage now after a couple of really good weeks at Doomben. This means Wednesday racing returns to Doomben, but punters best be on the lookout for the right lanes today because the precipitation has been our enemy the last few weeks. We will be racing on a soft 6-7 track with the rain we copped overnight and have the rail out five metres for the entire course and the first race to jump at 12.02pm.

Race 1: MAIDEN (1350M)

I am not keen in this first looks an absolute lottery, the favourite appears unders and the best play here is surely just watch and check conditions.

Race 2: MAIDEN (1350M)

The favourite here Girmay if it holds form and the track doesn’t butcher its chance should be the winner. Form behind Vantorix, Martist and Dream Roca looks a fair class above this field so happy to have it on top in the colts and geldings maiden.

Race 3: MAIDEN (1200M)

Another maiden this time for the two years olds and if there is one thing about these horses drawn low and on speed are both huge ticks. The Waterhouse and Bott team bring one here with that form in Palmanova. She beat home La Barrita last start who the McEvoys have a bit of an opinion of. Off the back of that she draws barrier four and looks to be the leader or sit just outside the leader here.

Race 4: Benchmark 78 (2200M)

This is your typical 2000 metre race for the Wednesday with the standard field lining up. Keen to be with Chillaxing here back to Doomben after a nice win at Ipswich. He will handle the ground particularly if more rain comes, drops down in weight and from barrier six should be able to be no more than three pairs back as they round the corner.

Race 5: Class 1 (1110M)

Not a race I am wildly keen to launch into but at the price She Ours is worth a small dabble. This horse is one from fourteen so yes, does not win out of turn but some of her form behind Amuseantes, Pre Eminence and Petticoat is well and truly good enough for this. Most of the pace is drawn outside her and she can follow Ice Chocolate across. It may be slightly to quick for her but the track conditions should make it more like a 1200M race than an 1110M dash.

Race 6: Benchmark 78 (1200M)

This is a really interesting race and there are a few ways to look at it. Set To Shine goes on top for me after one run in that was classy, then back to the trials and has had three lead ups which makes this look like it should be peaking here fresh with conditions to suit particularly the sting out of the ground.

Race 7: Benchmark 70 (1630M)

Siding with the southern raider in Sosino. While the form has been fairly mixed it appears at least on the surface this bloke needs sting in the track, and while they have been trying him over further I think the mile just suits him much better than the 1800M plus trips he has been racing over. Gets both of those today and Jace gives him a little bit of weight relief to further assist.

Race 8: Class 2 (1350M)

Just save your money for the Kingsford Smith and Fred Best on Saturday.
