So I'm guessing nothing has been happening in Mackay for a while: 164 nominations, 137 acceptors for 9 races with full fields...
The only question that needs to be asked is, why do we do this? Anyway, LET'S RIP IN!
Race 1: QTIS Maiden Plate (1050 METRES)
14 runners, 5 unraced... WOWZA!
Can't really place a bet here, but of the raced brigade, Lake Varna brings the best form lines. A second to Little Pinker out at Woop Woop reads well, but we’ll be watching.
Race 2: Class 1 Handicap (1050 METRES)
Interesting runner here, Costner, for the Lindsay Hatch/J Hux combination! Formerly with Tony Gollan, Costner now finds himself in the NQ mix. He showed incredible gate speed in a red-hot trial before sitting off the speed to win first up at Ipswich. He was then restrained in every subsequent start. Why? He comes into barrier 8 with scratchings, is rock-hard fit, so SCRUB HIM ALONG, J HUX!
Race 3: QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap (1100 METRES)
I’d be jumping on the back of the money horses, Gee Up or Lohny's Fabre. Pay attention to the market on this one, mugs.
Race 4: RICKY VALE Maiden Handicap (1300 METRES)

The greatest maiden to ever be raced at 2:17 pm while the temperature is a balmy 23 degrees may be run here.
The favorite comes here from doing nothing in Northern NSW. Spring's Gift finally gets a good track, but who’s to say she performs better on it? There’s one form race we can follow here: Love On Display, a race that a few come through here.
Enterprise Mousse was the standout of that race. It beat home a few others at 101/1 that day, had a chequered run up the straight, and hit its straps up the rail late. Gets a 3kg claimer here for a significant swing. Hopefully, positive from the gate could make for a sneaky E/W play.
Race 5: Class 4 Handicap (1560 METRES)
Cheat code on here: Moktaffy has beaten this bunch before while carrying weight, will get the gun run from barrier 1, and should be that simple.
Race 6: Class 1 Plate (1560 METRES)

She’s about to embark on a little NQ campaign and might be up to this level. Wiggo is engaged; she was slaughtered two starts back and messed with the TBA Mafia last start. Instructions are for a positive ride, so with luck, she’ll be in the first 4 in running, and hoping her fitness gets her over the line late.
Race 7: OPEN Handicap (1100 METRES)
Open Handicap time... Woo!
There seems to be pace galore here. Circularity would rather lose every single race by going too hard than giving up the lead. The bush champ, Han Dynasty, will be there. This sets up perfectly for Blue Kentucky Moon to peel out and go BANG over them late. Cochrane got him on the weights last time out, but that won’t be a factor here. As the legend that is Lloydy says, "Go find your bookie!"
Race 8: 0 - 55 Handicap (1200 METRES)
Listen Listen on top here. Two starts back, was brave on pace here at Mackay behind Lady Masquerade and Brazen Breccia. Was chopped out at a crucial time of the race, so who knows what could have been! LM is a $5 shot in race 5 and BB was a chance in the last before getting scratched, so I think that form is strong! Barrier 1, hoping for a rinse and repeat run from Pietro Romeo.
Race 9: 0 - 55 Handicap (1500 METRES)
Week 2 of bringing back #WIGGOINTHELAST, but this week, we are oh so confident.
Sennaprost has only missed a placing once here at the track. Form this prep around Pippistrelle, who’s airborne, Moktaffy, who’s a put-in-take-out job earlier, and Sailor's Rum, who should have won a Guineas! Gets in with 55.5 kg! Which Wiggo would be SWEATING hard to get to.
I think they’ll have to lead on Shamedy with weight and the barrier first up, but that will tell late for Sennaprost to storm over them. The 4.5 kg difference doesn’t sound too advantageous in the set weights system, but she’s been racing a lot better than her 61 rating suggests.
