Mackay Preview 30/03/21

Seven races will be run and won at Mackay on Tuesday and what better way to celebrate than with a sister meeting at glorious Ipswich in the South-East. The track is a Good 4 and the rail is in the true position.

The opening race looks a race a wide open affair with just seven runners over 1560m at Benchmark 65 level. While the two favourites look hard to beat, we are siding with the top weight, Proane, who faces just a five-day turn around but a severe drop in class. After running a credible seventh in a tough, Open Handicap at Rockhampton on Thursday, he should appreciate the drop to BM65.

The second sees a decent field of three-year-olds go around and again we are with one at odds. Tom Button takes just the one runner north after winning with Rollinwiththeflo in a QTIS 3YO race at Doomben on Saturday. The son of Love Conquers All ran a great fourth last start at Rocky and the form out of that has been franked since. $19 is over the odds given #RockyFormIsBestForm

We find ourselves with a no-bet race in the third so that we can keep the powder dry for our best of the day in race five. Nailed It Nan was too good at this track last time out and looks mighty hard to beat again under Justin Stanley. With speed on, she will sit off the pace and be too good for them. Get in the queue.

Well if you’re on the favourite, get in the queue; you’re home!

The feature race of the afternoon sees just eight horses go toe to toe over 1200m at Open level. It is hard to go against race favourite Lepreezy who will have the lead to herself and can kick away around the tight-turning Mackay track. Spring Creek has franked that form by winning her next start too.

We won’t have a bet in the penultimate and instead will have a good bet in the last race of the day. Fred Smith saddles up Rocky Poet who comes out of a HOT form race at Rocky a little over two weeks ago when third to Avocado Sunset and Isis Brumby who have both won since. He was first-up off nearly a 12-month spell, so with extra fitness, Rocky Poet can be saluting in the last.
