Its sunny, its hot and we are fired up as it’s the middle of spring and we are racing at Ipswich for the second time this week, lucky us! It is a shortened seven race card and we will be racing on what will be a soft 5 track (spell me its been sunny for months) with the rail in the true position for the entire course and the first race to jump at 1.43pm.
Race 1: MAIDEN (1666M)
It is maidens on maidens today and we start with one here. Two of the fancied runners faced off last start with Align the Planets going home the better. In a small field and both drawn in it is hard to see Tambourine Man getting any real advantage and for that reason I have to be with the odds on pop in Align the Planets.
Race 2: Class 1 (1666M)
Well Rising Pacific was a certainty beaten last start but at $1.55 happy to let that go through to the keeper. Esky however comes through a race over further granted but was beaten home by Kokonotsu and Ostermeier who has since won a Saturday city class race. Prior to that beat home Kureder who has also since won so there is form around this horse. If Waller finally has him cherry ripe he can be winning this race and knock off the hot pot.
Race 3: MAIDEN (800M)
The infamous Ipswich 800M dash is back and aren’t we lucky to bear witness to this again. Huge field but you just cannot be a run on horse and win this kind of race. Ever So Clever gets Ben Thompson on and first up last prep over 1000M was a couple lengths of Caesaris and just simply didn’t run it out. She draws in the middle so can take it up and is a healthy bet in a pretty even race.
Race 4: Benchmark 68 (800M)
Bang! Another 800M dash. The favourite in Liquor goes on top here. She has won at this track and trip before and with wins over April in Augusta and a first up run three lengths off Hard to Say over the 1050M which has had subsequent winners come out of it so the form looks strong.
Race 5: Class 2 (1200M)
Another race, another odds on Gollan runner in Latakia. Once again brave old Bean is taking it on. Cassrock for the flying Schweida team comes to this off two nice runs over the 1000M behind subsequent winners. She has had four goes at this track for a win and three minor placings so she clearly likes the tight turning circuit. Cejay gets the claim and Bean gets the money when she lobs.
Race 6: Benchmark 68 (1100M)
Another pretty big field here of the 1100M and the O’dea and Hoysted yard have Jimmy’s Dream in. This horse strung a couple together at the end of last prep and first up this preparation was in behind the very classy Beast Mode. He improves second up and with the step out in trip and Huxtable on we are keen to play here.
Race 7: Benchmark 68 (1350M)
Well she is up in grade but I just think she wins again and you don’t jump off winners. Maid to Fit gets to this race third up so peaking it fitness after two back to back wins. From barrier two Jimmy Orman can have her close again in the run and if she has any improvement at all at $4.40 she is really nice bet here.
