What a weekend we have coming up here, it is pure class all down south but before we get there, we get to load up on a nine-race midweek card at Ipswich. We will be racing on a Good 4 track with the rail out 2m from the 1600m to the 1100m and 4m for the remainder of the course. The first race is set to jump at 12.41pm AEST.
Race 1: Benchmark 62 (1680M)
Yes we start with a five-horse Benchmark 62 over the mile, no thanks.
Race 2: Benchmark 62 (1350M)
Interesting race to assess with Invinovich scratched from Sir Carter's race (who beat Sir Carter a length on debut) that Ekaterina won and Sailor’s Secret just a length of it last start. Going with that form line as that was a strong race last Saturday. Sailor’s Secret should be winning here.
Race 3: MAIDEN (1350M)
This is another classic Ipswich race with 16 starters and just a pack of non-winners, obviously one will get it done today but we are staying out.
Race 4: MAIDEN (1100M)
Well we have another maiden, but we are very keen to play here. Schmoozer was smashed in the betting on debut and then smashed when going for a gap down the straight. Will be mighty hard to hold out here and from an inside draw can be a few off the pace. Once again we will be praying for gaps late but at the $9 this is a definite bet.
Race 5: Benchmark 65 (1680M)
It is fair to say that Carneros needs to win one but the form of last race looks good. Smytzer has been running well and Kronenbourg looks above average. From barrier 1 he can be close enough and with those late closing splits and Jimmy Orman sticking adds real confidence.
Race 6: Benchmark 65 (2150M)
Gambu was very good last start because he was caught doing all the work chasing a hot speed and then dropped out late. He draws barrier 2 here and James Orman has been booked so he will be able to lead this field up, while the drop back in trip will suit. He also gets back closer to a good track which will really give a further few favours.
Race 7: Class 3 (1350M)
There doesn’t appear to be a stack of pace in this race and Lariana was only three lengths off Drive A Deel who is flying at the moment. She gets in here very light with the claim and will be able to control it out in front. The key here is she is a genuine track specialist.
Race 8: Benchmark 68 (1200M)
Staying out of this one, Moreton Bay is a mile too short and the rest I just cannot entertain.
Race 9: Class 1 (1100M)
This is a pretty hard race to assess for the last of the day but going with a bit of value in Groovin’ The Moo. The in-form Angela Jones sticks and from the pole draw can really control this out in front. He was pretty strong through the line and now third-up and with the 3kg claim again, she should be hard to beat.
