Cup day has been run and won and what a day it was for the Australian bread now champion in Haf Yours. While this meant no mid-week racing here in Queensland we have decided to treat you to a set of Oaks day tips at Ipswich. We find ourselves on a soft 5 track with the rail will back in the true position for entire course and the first race to jump at 1.02pm.
Race 1: MAIDEN (1666M)
Pretty smart way to start the day here, Ben Thompson on the favourite Hard as Brok, drawn low and can stalk the pace and if any improvement is shown he just wins a race like this, multi banker.
Race 2: MAIDEN (1100M)
Well Ludlum the horse who previously beat Summit ran 14th of 15 on cup day but that was in a pretty decent form race and then Summit comes out to Ipswich today to break the maiden. In a small field he will go back but it seems they are trying the shorter trips for the son of Zoustar and with Ben Thompson booked happy to take the shorts again.
Race 3: Benchmark 58 (800M)
Yes we could be creative here but why, Ben Thompson will have a treble by the end of race three. Before Anyone Else has had four starts with a win and second of this track and trip. If there is any sting out that will help but regardless jump, sit handy and win is the play here. Lets make it 3/3 early Benny.
Race 4: Class 1 (1350M)
Alright well now we aren’t going for wild value but at least its the odds on shot this race. Intruder the favourite does look to have a nice time of it out in front with a bit of a lack of speed but down the bottom from barrier ten is Spirit of Nurai. She flew late to just miss second up, steps up slightly in trip here and with the claimer gets in well at the weights. If she is close enough on the corner she can let down and burn past this lot in the final 100m.
Race 5: Class 4 (1666M)
Well if Bella give Captain Fenkel a peach then he just wins this plain and simple. He was a bazinga in town a week or two ago and draws the pole here, claimer engaged and he just looks like a good thing here if he can get any cheap sectionals at all.
Race 6: Benchmark 60 (1100M)
I didnt think there was a whole heap between a couple of the fancied runners here but Viale comes through form behind horses like Boomtown Boss who last preparation was airborne. The Kevin Kemp trained runner has since come through a nice trial and prior runs were in behind Pareto who is city class. She draws to get options and can probably sit outside lead if need be or tuck in behind.
Race 7: Open Handicap (1100M)
This is a tricky little race. I think however that Ralphie is basically a good thing in this race. He will be siting off the pace here but gets in with a measly 54 kilos on his back. He comes through a prior race behind Petticoat who bolted in down at Randwick on Tuesday. He will need pace on but if he gets it, he will be winning.
Race 8: Class 5 (1200M)
Well they do say mares in form, and Oberoi Princess has got the job done first up. She drops half a kilo but does have to offset a weight swing going they way of key rival Party Spirit. I thought the heathcote runner peaked on the run latest and could improve but the princess just seemed to get through the line better to happy to stick with her.
