Well the local mugs are treated to a special card at Royal Ipswich for this week’s mid-week racing. We are running on a Soft 5 with the rail out 5m for the entire course with the first race to jump at 1:53pm AEST.
Race 1: 3YO MAIDEN (1200M)
It’s a very even race this and that is not even getting into the first starters here. Gollan brings Da Party Girl out with two thirds prior, while she did beat home Bean Dreamin who came out on Cup day and saluted at the Gold Coast. Happy to stay away but interested to see if any Magic Millions chances pop up here.
Race 2: MAIDEN Set Weights (1200M)
If we were half keen on Da Party Girl in the first and liked that form line than the Peter and Will Hulbert trained My Odette has to be a chance, but I’m worried about the gate. The main danger is the lightly raced 4YO Anarchy for Orman and Schweida, with from around Goldschlager. It will go close from the inside alley.
Race 3: Class 3 Handicap (1110M)
Very keen on one here in the third, Joy Too All. While coming up a short priced favourite in all of her five career starts, she has been a deserving favourite each time. She was only beaten by Palaisipan last prep and well there isn’t need to say a lot more. Bourbon and coke, Forster and Byrne, Sausage and Bread, oh and Vandyke and Maloney. Yes that super combination will have the winner here. Small field, drawn out will be midfield and run straight past them late.
Race 4: Class 5 Set Weights (1200M)
There are a couple of speedy types over the 1200M here, including the promising Mccovey Cove for Vandyke, but I am siding with one I liked last start at Ipswich in There You Are. He stays at the same trip here and Boris Thornton sticks which adds confidence and assuming he doesn’t cop a check like he did last time, I think in this small field that the favourite will be too far off them. There You Are can land perfectly behind the leading bunch.
Race 5: Class 2 Handicap (1680M)
This race doesn’t have me overly excited. Jakkalberry Finn looked a certain winner last start after being hampered alongside Madame Mo down the straight. Not sure how he comes up $2.20 but I guess against this field it starts to add up. Cannot be taking that price, so it’s a no bet race for me.
Race 6: Class 1 Set Weights (1350M)
A really open race for the penultimate event of the day and if there is trainer in the nation apart from Chris Waller going better than Micky Costa I will be very surprised. All Too Quick comes here after a last start win and he has the pace to sit behind Private Cheetah and Sundus - if not lead them both. He handoes the sting out the ground and with JGC coming for the ride it only makes me more confident.
Race 7: Benchmark 72 (1350M)
Blazing Mac and Getyourgreyon should be too quick early for this field and will lead them off. The favourite here in an even market is Spokesman and he looks a great bet at the price. He was 0.5 of length off The Ritz and did beat home Blazing Mac who picks up a very minor weight swing from last time they met. Waller has made the good decision to get Cassidy on and I think he will be too smart for this field in the last race of the day.
