Ipswich | May 14

Well the rain has once again impacted the Gold Coast but its means todays midweek meeting at Ipswich gets the world famous Bat out of Hell. We will be racing on a soft 5 track with more rain predicted and the rail out three metres for entire course and the first race to jump at 11.56am.

Race 1: MAIDEN (1680M)

No bet for this race, but if  you like a bet roughie in small fields always a good option.

Race 2: MAIDEN (1680M)

Well Dubias Miss has drawn the widest here, but if she jumps well and controls this out in front with fitness on her side and a soft to heavy track testing the other runners I can see her breaking the maiden here today.

Race 3: Open Handicap (1100M)

Going to stick here with Guac On and the man of the moment King Callow. He draws a wider alley here but there does look to be a bit of tempo inside so if he can sit just off them and then accelerate late in the run as he did last start I think he can be hard to beat here with the soft track form.

Race 4: MAIDEN (1200M)

Not keen this race.

Race 5: Benchmark 68 (1500M)

One of the mugs favourites here in Quothquan lines up here for John Dann and Cobi Vitler. The claim here is key getting him down to 59 kilos. While barrier four may be slightly sticky there looks enough pace on paper at least that will have them running along strongly over the 1500M and if he gets the gaps late he can make it 3/3 at Ipswich.

Race 6: Class 4 (1680M)

Well Texas Fireball should just be too good here. He has struggled to win since January but rarely puts in a bad run. He has form around Boys Night Out who has been going well, and the form in early January is superior to that of its competitors in this field. I don’t love the gate obviously but it might be a case of wider the better if the track deteriorates on the inside throughout the day.

Race 7: Bat Out of Hell (1100M)

Just back Nettuno here with complete and utter confidence. Maloney rides, absolutely relishes any sting in the track, there are a million scratching’s so will jump from barrier 8 not 15 as listed and beat home Libertad last start while finishing in behind Zarastro and Wanda Rox the latter who is favourite here but better suited to the shorter trips.

Race 8: Class 4 (1200M)

A pretty big field here and a few likely types in it as well. We have settled on Give Giggles here for the Gollan yard and Emily Lang. She does draw a bit awkwardly however all the pace seems to be drawn in the inside few gates so there should be a really genuine tempo up front. If she can be no more than four pairs on the point of the corner her superb second up record can see her winning here today.

Race 9: Benchmark 68 (1200M)

We liked I Am Marvel last start at Ipswich and while brave was still beaten pretty convincingly by Impendor and Data Leak. He draws similarly again her and does get the soft track conditions again. Bailey jumps on today though and yes he’s been up a while but in an even race happy to play at the each way odds.
