We've got eight of the best out of Royal Bundamba this Friday afternoon. Blue skies and perfect weather means we're on a Soft 5 with the rail out 10.5m.
Race 1: Maiden Plate (2210m)
There's a reason these are in a 2210m maiden...
Race 2: Maiden Handicap (800m)
After a key scratching of Kentucky Rose, it leaves us with a very short favourite. Staying out of this one.
Race 3: 2YO Maiden Plate (800m)
Another short favourite here in This Is One, but I think he's worth the gamble at the short quote. He looked a really promising galloper prior to his debut, and although beaten at the Sunshine Coast, that form has well and truly stood up. He led them up over 1000m and was only gunned down late by El Morzillo, who is probably Queensland's 2YO of the Year. He should be able to cross from the outside gate and prove too classy for this lot.
Race 4: 3YO Maiden Handicap (1350m)
Having a quinella play here. Miss Miriam clearly looks the one to beat and the market suggests that coming out of a strong maiden last start, but $1.60 is rock bottom. Cryptic Sound I thought would have won one by now, and she may get her chance today. The 1350m will suit, and the blinkers going on will hopefully see her find a length or two as well.
Race 5: BM58 (2210m)
Tavieslass is just as consistent as they come. She was too good for our boy Rhodes back in April, before running back-to-back seconds at Gatton and Ipswich. Last start she was brave on speed behind Aldeenaary who bolted in, but there was merit in her run. She'll make her own luck and take running down here.
Race 6: BM62 (1710m)
Shamuka gets a run as sixth emergency and should give this race a real shake from in front. Drawn barrier two with Bailey Wheeler in the saddle, this guy should take control of affairs and look to really make it a sit and sprint to suit himself. He was a strong winner two back in maiden grade, and was then far from disgraced in Class 2 company last time out. This trip suits.
Race 7: 0-62 Handicap (1200m)
Tricky little race this and hard to split the top two. Staying out.
Race 8: Winter Provincial Sprint Series Heat BM72 Handicap (1100m)
This is a good race with a few progressive sprinters lining up. I'm hoping that the few at the top of betting carve each other up in front, setting the race up for All Stashed Up to finish over the top. While she was disappointing last start, I thought the 1200m really saw her out in a strong race. Back to 1100m, she can be ridden cold and saved for one shot at them under Vlad Duric. She loves it here at Ipswich and is in a purple patch of form this prep.
