Ipswich | August 31

The rain clouds have come across and we have had a bit of wet weather up here in gods country but that will never stop a mid-week dabble at the Ipswich Turf Club. We will be racing on a soft 7 track with the rail out 10 metres from the 1350 to the winning post and out 8 metres the remainder with the first race is to jump at 1.08pm AEST.

Race 1: MAIDEN (1200M)

Well off to the first and there is one here outside the Gollan favourite that has been chomping at the bit to get out over further ground. Radiant Queen for the Nolan camp has had two thirds and a second and all of these races the trip beat her. Gets a senior jockey on for the first time and the extra trip and with the rail out this looks a nice bet, fingers crossed you can make ground today at Ipswich.

Race 2: Benchmark 68 (1350M)

Well you would think either Les Ross or Tommy Button take this out with the top two in the market and half the field between them but we will be staying out.

Race 3: MAIDEN (1350M)

Another pretty tough race but we are looking a bit rough here and siding with Epauvescent from the Pat Duff yard. Comes to this of a second to Komata up the coast and bring in some of the best soft track form of this field. From barrier twelve will go forward and try to sit outside Viking Forever. If those two get away with it out in front it could be hard to hold out the fiver year old gelding late.

Race 4: Class 2 (1200M)

Lady Rain looks a really nice bet here and we get a price too. Goes up only half a kilo here and draws the pole to do absolutely no work. I think will be a similar run in transit even though there is a bit more pace in the race. If Brodie Loy can either lead or tuck in behind some real bolters than once the gaps appear late it should be a similar story to last with a nice victory.

Race 5: Class 2 (1200M)

Pretty keen the favourite here in Ned’s Gully for Paul Wallace. Was a really nice win at Toowoomba before being held up last start at Doomben in what could be a really good form race with some nice types including Be Water My Friend, Caribbean King and Snappy Reply and the form could be franked in the race that follows with Skilord coming up a short priced favourite. In a small enough field with pace drawn in he should be able to come round them and storm down the outside late.

Race 6: Class 4 (1100M)

Really hard race to split the top three in the market in Skilord, Magnitudo and Rich Lister. The latter I think needs dry ground so that could be a problem and if we had to be Magnitudo is the value at around the $5.50.

Race 7: Benchmark 70 (1350M)

Siding with the top weight here in Nishikori. There has been some really good form around him with his only start here going down to Gwan So and last start beating home Mob Buster who has subsequently come out and won in town since. Yes he does carry a little extra here today but from that draw can save ground and with this being his trip and give in the ground a bonus I don’t see why he cannot do it again.
