It has been an absolute eternity since we have returned to headquarters for the Wednesday midweek card. The sun has been out for a few days so we are racing on a Good 4 track with the rail out 10.5 metres for the entire course. A couple of handy gallopers getting around so lets rip and find a few winners. The first race is set to jump at 12.33pm AEST.
Race 1: MAIDEN (1500M)
Interesting 1500M race to start the card and the favourite Dutch Gold lines up at $2.40 but with a third to Landsborough Lad I find it a little hard to land on him here. I didn’t mind Blazen Boots with Orman on board but the run of Swanic Boom from the Bougoure yard raced against it last race and was super. Will try and lead them off and third up peak fitness could be too strong.
Race 2: Class 4 (1400M)
Pretty keen on one in this race and its not the short priced favourite. Confessed comes up here with the Kris Less team and with a last start fourth second up to Devils Throat and finally reaching the right trip this looks very well placed. She has only missed this trip twice from eight attempts and from the outside can camp just off these and also gets a good track which is a huge tick.
Race 3: MAIDEN (1400M)
Note keen this race with a few first starters happy to sit back and watch.
Race 4: Class 2 (1800M)
Port Mourant has been racing over a little further the last few so this may be a query here but I am happy to stick with it. He was charging home late to nearly get over Otyrar who has struck trouble the last couple but I like the form there. Loves a good surface and from barrier two can be a lot closer in the run to use that superb turn of foot to effect.
Race 5: Class 3 (1000M)
Not a bad race here with a few classy midweek runners getting around. I have landed on one of the Gollan runners here in Muschialli. He does like to get back in races so I think this track will suit but first start here and as we know some horses handle it and other don’t. He has had a lot of runs on wet ground lately and clearly does not handle it. With two wins from seven attempts over this trip and only missing once on good ground this is the right recipe and with James Orman on it’s a nice bet.
Race 6: Class 1 (1000M)
Amity Gal is short but first up after two trials and runs in behind Coco Rox and Maloney riding it looks a bet.
Race 7: Benchmark 65 (1500M)
This race is pretty tough but Roller Coaster comes through off a really nice trial even though he ran four of five in the trial. He ambled up to them nicely there and does have a decent first up record winning one from two. If he is fit enough and someone takes on Dembe out in front to ensure a genuine tempo then at $14 this would not surprise.
Race 8: Benchmark 65 (1200M)
Really keen here on one from Marc Quinn yard that is up from Sydney searching for drier ground. Optimo was due to run last Saturday at Randwick in the first and was fancied in the market. Last start was a complete forgive run after missing the jump but if he jumps with them here he should be able to sit off a nice tempo from Zuma California, Phantom Spirit and Keeta and be way to strong late.
