Eagle Farm | October 26

What a weekend we have coming up here, the start of the Flemington Carnival with Christmas Day for punters - Derby Day! It is pure class all down south but before we get there, we get to load up on an eight-race midweek card at Eagle Farm and there are a few nice types going around. We will be racing on a Soft 5 track with the rail out six metres for the entire course. The first race is set to jump at 12.43pm AEST.

Race 1: MAIDEN (1200M)

I am going back to the well here again with Schmoozer. Yes, I know two runs particularly last start was a pretty ugly watch but gets the favours here. From barrier two he should be able to hold a position, and getting back to a big open track should see him able to let down similarly to how he did on debut at the Sunshine Coast where he was a certainty beaten. Drammatica scares me with Orman on board, but sticking strong here.

Race 2: Benchmark 70 (1200M)

Pretty tough race this one but I liked the look of Imposing Brook when nominated the other day on a very heavy deck and was subsequently scratched. Comes up from down south with some form around a few smart ones. With Byrne and Forster combining on their home deck, the $5 for a first starter up here in Brisbane is worth a play.

Race 3: MAIDEN (1200M)

All these horses are having their second or third start, watch and perhaps gain some insight on the next bright youngster in Queensland ranks.

Race 4: Benchmark 65 (1000M)

Interesting race here, but I do think the favourite has come up a bit short to be launching. Siding with King’s Express in this race as he gets back to a good deck from what has been a month freshen up. From the draw, he can sit behind the pace and use that explosive turn of foot late.

Race 5: Benchmark 70 (1600M)

It makes me sick to think about, but we are going back to the theme park here. Roller Coasters can be a rocky but exciting ride and this bloke is no different. Gets a key weight swing on one of the fancies here in Carneros. Samantha Collet keeps the ride and if he can explode like he did last start on a bigger track we have to be with him at the $13.

Race 6: Class 1 (1200M)

The favourite should be winning this with form around Flaming Conquest but that said the race is pretty open.

Race 7: Class 5 (1400M)

Really happy to side with Geo here, the Saturday class race that he comes out of looks pretty good on paper and I think will prove a very strong form race. Third up here and sticks to the 1400M so will be at peak fitness. Mallyon jumps abord and while he does pick up a few kilos this field is much weaker.

Race 8: Class 2 (1400M)

Another massive field here to end the day and for that reason going to go with a bit of value in the last. Stoinka comes here from a pretty dashing run to salute at Ipswich last start. He goes up slightly in trip here but drops a few kilos and key rival Military Gambler comes to this giving weight and is a $5 chance. I just think the market has missed him here and with Fradd sticking he can be winning again at a really nice price, again.
