Eagle Farm July 2 | Best Bets + Preview

Updated: Jul 2

Well folks that is an absolute wrap with the end of the winter carnival or at least group ones here in Queensland. With cyclonic conditions here today in Brisbane and all the way down the east coast wouldn’t be surprised to see the wicked witch blow in to Eagle Farm. We will be racing on a soft 6 track with the rail out nine metres for entire course and the first race to jump at 11.58am.

Race 1: MAIDEN (1000M)

Field of first starters, wind blowing a gale, hard pass.

Race 2: MAIDEN (1000M)

Rinse repeat of the previous.

Race 3: MAIDEN (1000M)

Going to go with a first starter here for Emily and Bobby in Shanidar. She has one both her trials leading in and the stable is going well at the moment. The wide draw is a slight concern but happy to go with a bit of value here.

Race 4: Class 2 (1000M)

Ecclestone here for the Gollan team and Emily again, she is after that premiership. The horse was airborne the prep before last then had a poor run and since a little break. He returns here first up and with the claimer engaged and bit a more intent to be show he can be winning this for Executive racing.

Race 5: Benchmark 78 (1845M)

The open middle distance benchmark race sits in the middle and does make it pretty hard. We are settling with a bit of value here and Bak Da Man. While he was pumped by nine lengths first up that was over 1400M and he quickly gets to 1845M but he does have a superior record second which is rare for most horses.

Race 6: Benchmark 70 (1300M)

This race the favourite here in November Sun should be winning third up with two less than a length defeats. She has no weight on the back here again and if she cannot get the job done here, might be time to pass on her for a while, even though she has only had five starts.

Race 7: Class 5 (1200M)

This is an interesting race with Bindi’s Choice first up but there does look to be a few here that like to go forward. I think Volcanic Love can shock here first up if they can run on at all in this wind. He is not a perennial winner but has a good first up record and with pace on and Bailey Wheeler on he can get the job done here.

Race 8: Benchmark 68 (1600M)

This race is an absolute lottery. Happy to steer clear.

Race 9: Class 1 (1400M)

If you thought the previous race was difficult well we finish the day in a similar situation. I think Gollan can win the last and that is with Velozes. This horse has not been a regular winner but has had two runs building into this preparation and she steps outs to 1400M which is a more suitable trip, and should get good ground by this time at the end of the day.
