Finally the mid-week event returns to the hallowed turf of Eagle Farm. We are not even in summer yet but the weather is heating up and hopefully so is the racing this fine Wednesday. We find ourselves on what should be a good 4 soft track throughout the day with the rail out six and a half metres for entire course and the first race to jump at 12.58pm.
Race 1: MAIDEN (1830M)
Not a really firm opinion here, but Lexy Rose has form around Perhaps Perhaps from his brothers stable and it ran super winning last Wednesday at Doomben so keen to play that way early on at Eagle Farm.
Race 2: Class 3 (1830M)
There is a famous saying in racing and its that that you should always back mares in form. Cherish the Day is exactly about flying. She does step up here again but gets Ben Thompson on and flourishes on a good track and the way she cleared out at Ipswich you would think a big open straight may suit her even better, sticking with her!
Race 3: MAIDEN (1400M)
Well fair to say we have had our crack and Some Style and if she wins here, well so be it but we won’t be on. I thought the one here that would not shock is the Waller runner in Peccavi. She was held up and still found late last start at Ipswich. While there may be second up syndrome here out of The Autumn Sun she will improve over further and from a wider alley she can sit back peel wide and should have no problems finding clear air late.
Race 4: MAIDEN (1400M)
We can give a tip here but this race give me anything but confidence, Heavenly Conquest from the form down South looks the bet, and will sit right behind the pace. Ben Thompson steers so that gives us a bit of confidence here.
Race 5: Benchmark 68 (2200M)
Another pretty interest race here with a couple of non-winners lining up against each other. Empire Of Art is the surprise runner here finally getting to 2200M and once again Ben Thompson on shows intent from the Waller stable. He just missed last start and stepping out further on a good track might be the right recipe for success.
Race 6: Benchmark 75 (1000M)
This race is an extended version of the Bat out of Hell, what we mean by that is half this field are basically 800M specialists lining up. This race sets up with a lot of pace outside and inside and it does setup for a run on horse. The wide open track and a horse with form on this track looks the way to go and we have landed on Blue Spinel. Flies fresh, three wins this track, and loves a good track.
Race 7: Class 1 (1600M)
There is a smart winner who lines up here in Man Of The Town although there will be a significant challenge from Luconi here who was beaten by a horse that has subsequently won. Man Of The Town was super fresh at the Sunshine Coast and he steps out here to the mile based on that fresh run and a drop in weight he can be winning again here.
Race 8: Benchmark 68 (1400M)
Keen to play a bit of a roughie here in Seneschal from the Kendrick team. He hand a month between runs last start and missed by a pimple. He gets to Eagle Farm today and has had a win and a second from three goes here with one over this trip. While he does have barrier nine there doesn’t look a lot of pace inside and he may only three or four pairs back and if required could be more positive. At the each-way price he a nice bet here.
