Well the EKKA is in town this week and it means MEKKA race day in town at headquarters. We are back on soft 5 track and we have eight races this afternoon with the rail out ten metres for entire course and the first race to jump at 12.33pm.
Race 1: MAIDEN (1400M)
Pretty tough race here to start the day but we are siding with our team in the Hulbert and Slipsain lining up here for his second start. He was good behind a smart one in Noire Emperor last start and will be improved of the back of that run and stepping out in trip.
Race 2: MAIDEN (1000M)
Complete lottery here, happy to leave this one to the market.
Race 3: MAIDEN (1000M)
Quickzou and Anders Style gapped the field last start. That looks to be the form here although the wide alley is a slight concern. Gollan’s first starters normally improve significantly off their maiden debuts and he has been well backed here by early players so happy to stick with the favourite in Quickzou.
Race 4: Class 4 (1400M)
A few of these took each other on last start namely Exceed Speed. He drops half a kilo here, gets the services of Ben Thompson and track conditions to suit. He excels over this trip and while he has drawn wide he can sit off them and rattle home late.
Race 5: Benchmark 65 (1600M)
I think a few of the fancied runners are under the odds here, happy to go with a roughie in Sunlord here for the Jack Bruce team. He was very good first up behind Boondocks and hunting the line late. Steps out to the mile here and it looks the right recipe.
Race 6: Benchmark 70 (1000M)
I think Matt Dunn may have one here too that could surprise at a decent price again. She’s Exotic is two from three first up and comes through two nice trials. She is also 3/3 on the soft track so if you are playing this way you would like a bit of shower before this race. Drawn in the middle but she will go back anyway and can round them up late.
Race 7: Class 1 (1000M)
There does look to be a bit of pace in this race and I think that will suit Cassiere from the Gollan camp. Two starts ago she came through the race behind Deep Vegas who looks smart and Red Hot Lizzie came through that race and has won prior. She sticks to the 1000M here and hopefully there is plenty of pace on.
Race 8: Benchmark 65 (1200M)
Jenchick Boom is a bit of a non-winner in recent racing. She draws barrier two here though and gets the services of Ben Thompson. She doesn’t mind the sting out however if we do get to a good track though she looks pretty hard to beat here. She will be handy to the speed and should just be able to drop on them late from the inside.
