Doomben Best Bets + Preview | September 17

The old switcheroo again and back to Doomben we are and with a full eight race card as well. The weather continues to warm up here in Queensland but we still currently find ourselves on a soft 5 track to start the day with the rail out nine and a half metres for entire course and the first race to jump at 12.45pm.

Race 1: MAIDEN (2060M)

Sticking fat with one to start the day for Declan Maher in Perhaps Perhaps who we backed last week as Ipswich and ran a nice second but perhaps the tight track just didn’t fully suit her. She is up for her fourth run this preparation so the step out in trip should be no concern and looks a nice race with prior soft track form, if those conditions hold.

Race 2: MAIDEN (1200M)

Well as is the theme of the day there is a bit can hype horses live up to it today. Shadwell Lane lines up here for Jim Mason and has been super in two runs prior and has been jointly beaten less than ne length. Cejay remains on board and from barrier eight will need to follow Tszyuya across to stay close enough to the pace.

Race 3: MAIDEN (1200M)

We get to do it all again here with a few horses that all look to have a fair bit of potential. Valedictorian looks to get the better run here from barrier one but Wootten Hyde is third up here and reaching peak fitness. Keen to side his was in this race but its wide open.

Race 4: Benchmark 65 (1650M)

Keen to play Busker here in a small but tough race. He was poor at Eagle Farm over 1400M and then came out and bolted in last start at the Sunshine Coast. Should be tempo here and hopefully the smaller field can allow Busker to sit a lot closer and fly home again late.

Race 5: Benchmark 75 (1200M)

There are a few that could lob in this race, and have sided with Xpresso even though the rising seven year old is yet to win over this trip. He has improved after two runs in this trip and Cody Collis seems to get the best out of this older dog.

Race 6: Class 3 (1350M)

Not really sure why the price has come up for Vos Savant, yes up in class here but was pretty impressive first up and looked like out in trip she would only improve. Drawn a little wider here but there will be tempo and at the eachway price happy to be with in a tough race.

Race 7: Benchmark 65 (1350M)

Yes up in grate here Meldubious but I am simply just going to beleive the hype. The form out of his frist start has been very good and then bolted in latest. He draws barrier three here which gives him all the favours and I am just sticking solid even against harder opposition.

Race 8: Benchmark 65 (1200M)

Not a really easy was to end the day but the Munce team should be able to get us some Pocketmoney here in the last. First up was simply too short for her, then last start at Ipswich beaten by Surprise Honey but she flew home for second and any improvement there will see her winning this from a kind draw.
