Well Group ones galore, a fair NRL Grand Final and Ka Ying is on Australia’s shores, but if that doesn’t getting you bouncing around then we have eight races from Doomben, or Hades as Brisbane is quickly becoming known for. We find ourselves on a soft 5 track throughout the day with the rail out six and a half metres for entire course and the first race to jump at 12.53pm.
Race 1: MAIDEN (1640M)
First race of the day is a maiden over the mile, Sevilo should be winning this for Shailer and Rodd but no confidence in this small field where sometimes a lack of tempo can throw up a rough result.
Race 2: MAIDEN (1350M)
Another very tough race but going with the inform Munce stable and Pensiero. First preparation clearly didn’t go to plan and then first up was poor but does draw a gate here, with Huxtable on and the step out in trip should really suit. In an open race, happy to play each way.
Race 3: MAIDEN (1350M)
Provoker surely breaks the maiden status today. Rory Hutchings hops on, barrier four and only carrying 55.5 kilos the recipe looks perfect and does just look a launch, but we have seen how this goes before. If it cannot win this race, next time we may see it will be in the non-metros.
Race 4: Class 1 (2040M)
The middle distance magic continues in race four and we get what we usually expect with Waller and Gollan going at it again here. I think this race however may be dominated by the Heathcote runner in Celestial Blaze. On paper the race look to lack significant tempo and if he can sit out in front with probably Argerich and kick off on the turn I just am not sure they will catch up him here.
Race 5: Benchmark 68 (1200M)
Well the distances are slightly different but if Provoker can come out and win the third as we expect then Metal Man looks like best of the day areas in the fifth race. Very impressive last start and still looked like there was plenty to learn. Draws low again today, down in the weights with Daniel Moor on and he can make it two on the bounce for the Schweida team.
Race 6: Class 2 (1640M)
Well this is local in form versus first up starter in Queensland from down south. Mr Buster is up from the Maher stables with okay form in Melbourne and Sydney but Man of the Town has been airborne this preparation and from the pole draw I just think can control this out in front with the visitor potentially being posted the trip from a tricky gate eleven.
Race 7: Benchmark 70 (1350M)
This looks a pretty competitive race and the market suggests the same. Italian Riveria is simply a track and distance specialist and if you put a pen through his last start at the Gold Coast where if you were not on pace you were no hope then he looks a nice each way bet here. Will carry weight but in a race with a bit of speed if Jake is patient and gets the run at the right time he climb right over these late.
Race 8: Open Handicap (1200M)
This is yet another race today that does look on paper to be devoid of a genuine tempo. Beaux Rumble should lead but then I think Goldsborough and En Pointe can kick up. Goldsborough was very poor at Toowoomba but it can be that kind of track. He has a great record here and with the weight relief and draw he should be poised to strike late.
