Doomben | May 31

We head to the Derby and are well and truly into the Queensland Winter Carnival but that doesn’t mean the midweek madness stops. We at Doomben while the Group 1s continue at headquarters and for this midweek card and we will be racing on a soft 6 track with the rail out eight and half metres for the entire course and the first race to jump at 12.33pm.

Race MAIDEN (1050M)

When in doubt follow Gollan but we are staying out of this race, good luck to the heroes who get this right.

Race 2: MAIDEN (1350M)

Well there are JJ Atkins consequences here, basically a win and you are in for some of them. Hard to go past Miracle of Love but with Waller bringing in Exposition and scratching his three other runners you would have to think there is a bit of an opinion about this horse. At the current quote of $15 and James Orman on board I have to have something each way.

Race 3: MAIDEN (1350M)

For those who absolutely hate money and just like giving it away Landsborough Lad lines up again today at $1.85. There has been money around for the Gollan first starter and with Ben Thompson on from a good draw keen to have a throw at the stumps here on Suspicious Time in a race of non-winners.

Race 4: Class 3 (2040M)

I think we take on trust the ex European horse here in Fawkner Park. With the Neasham polish and a last start win coming off a trial win, yes the $1.65 is poison odds but this horse could be literally anything, multi banker!

Race 5: Benchmark 70 (1650M)

Miss Keeler was first up over the 1350M for the Conlan team here and just never got into the race but also didn’t expend any energy. She has won once over this trip previously and does improve second up. With barrier four and the local in Ben Thompson aboard she is overs in a pretty competitive race.

Race 6: Class 1 (1650M)

Well Mozza is the self proclaiming trial expert and in Purveyor he may have found one. This colt was very good first up out at Beaudesert mind you, but then went to the Sunshine Coast and performed admirably again and was hence nominated for last weekends races. There is clearly a high opinion from the team and frankly from the mugs as well. Bet up.

Race 7: Class 4 (1200M)

There is a bit of depth to this race but I don’t see why we don’t just back the truck up and get behind Roll Up again. He was a comfortable one length winner last start at Ipswich, Orman sticks, the barrier is not ideal but this is a field with a bit of tempo and the horses is one from one second up.

Race 8: Benchmark 75 (1350M)

Another race with a bit of quality about it and form lines coming from everywhere. Once again it feels as if we will just be bouncing our money between Orman and Thompson and that is what we are doing here. Silver City was just simply to bad to be true last start at Newcastle on the soft 6. He has since come out and run second in a trial and comes up here for the better quality surfaces to race on. Prior to that he was beating home California Surreal and in races with Miss Hellfire and Poseidon Ruler. This horse when he is right is better than these and is a massive each way play in the last for the mugs.
