What a weekend that was, the mugs were at the track and up and about. We move from headquarters back to the rain soaked Doomben. We have soft 5 track and may have a little bit of rain around with the rail out nine metres and the first race to jump at 12.28pm.
Race 1: MAIDEN (1110M)
Money has been flying in for the first up runner Zouna here, and mug Mozza is keen, happy to side with him and take the shorts early.
Race 2: MAIDEN (1350M)
Well odds on pops for Waller and Orman have not been kind so if it wins here, well no worries we are not jumping in at the $1.75.
Race 3: Class 3 (1650M)
This is a pretty competitive race, I am sticking with one we liked a couple of weekends ago in Smooth Torque. She ran fourth there and Kintetic came out on the weekend and was competitive in a blanket finish in the final race of the day. The draw isn’t ideal but over the 1650M it is less of an issues. She get to a suitable trip and by that I mean her last fifty metres better be quick.
Race 4: MAIDEN (1200M)
There are more booms and explosions in this race then the Expendables. Hard pass from us.
Race 5: MAIDEN (1200M)
Caxton Lass is short again here but from an awful draw last start she was really good. She draws barrier 1 here and from there with the sting out and King Kyle on board she should be far to classy here particularly with form from Grand Meteor being franked on the weekend.
Race 6: Class 5 (1200M)
This race should be pretty simple and Bubba’s Bay should be winning but if there is a wild upset it will come in the form of the Godfather. This horse beat Cifrado on debut then went amiss and had about thirty trials leading into his first up run this preparation. If he is even remotely back to normal then at $7 he is a worth a play.
Race 7: Benchmark 65 (1110M)
Press Link is a really good bet here. He seemed to do a heck of a lot wrong first up and still had the tenacity to knuckle down and climb over them late. While he didn’t win by much, with natural improvement he should be really good late albeit over a shorter trip.
Race 8: Benchmark 65 (1110M)
We have sided with the favourite here in this race. La Petite Maison was good last start leading the whole way and while challenged late held on. The front two gapped the field and if Caxton Lass wins earlier in the day she should be very hard to beat here.
Race 9: Benchmark 65 (1350M)
To Wish has been ultra impressive but was undone by the Waller runner Zakiyya last start. She was wide at Ipswich in a hot tempo race and rounded them up pretty comfortably. Draws perfectly in barrier four to sit just in behind the speed and the tight track should be no problem, great way to fill your boots at the end of the day.
