Doomben | March 22

The rain has come, we are at Doomben and we are ready to rip in! After more group one glory for Anamoe on the weekend we are looking to unearth another superstar up here in Queensland. We will be racing on a soft 6 track with the rail out seven metres for the entire course with the first race is to jump at 1.03pm AEST.

Race 1: Benchmark 68 (1350M)

Cranky Harry should be able to control this race out in front and he was only undone late last start from a nice run in behind the pace and a really good ride. Has had success with the cut in the ground before which I think goes against Boom Shot only ever so slightly.

Race 2: Benchmark 65 (1500M)

A six horse race they do say back the outside but I think this is simply a steer clear race for us.

Race 3: Class 3 (1640M)

If Media Scandal wins or runs well in the first then that should be all the confidence you need to back up here on MoveitMoveit who beat it home last start. The King Ben Thompson stays aboard and he could ride anything home to victory the way he is going and with success on the soft tracks before that should be of no concern.

Race 4: Benchmark 65 (1640M)

Pretty tough race to assess with a lot of tempo in the race and also mixed form on the soft decks. I have sided with Giveitallali with Sam Collet back on board and a superior track and distance record with two of her four wins coming over this track and trip, that is the right recipe.

Race 5: MAIDEN (1110M)

First starters, lack of form around a few of the others, we will be bypassing this race.

Race 6: MAIDEN (1350M)

Similar to the maiden previously while you could have a bet into there just isn’t enough exposed form to bet with any real confidence. A few of these came up against Boom Shot who runs in the first so once again if he goes well then perhaps that could give you a push to either Rum Revolution or Dark Chill but it’s a no bet race for me.

Race 7: Class 5 (1350M)

If Charge On goes to this race it is most certainly a bet but with no jockey nominated it doesn’t look likely. In that case we are steering clear of the top weight and headed down to our man Ben Thompson and Merseyside. This mare loves the trip and goes really well with the cut in the ground. She should be able to sit off them and be too strong late.

Race 8: Class 2 (1200M)

Kronenbourg is back and with a really good first up record, Ben Thompson on and the sting out of the track bet with confidence about this four year old gelding. While he was beaten by Smytzer last start at the Sunshine Coast I think another preparation under the belt he will have come back really well for the Gollan Team.
