Doomben | March 18

This may be the third week in a row we are Doomben so surely by now we are getting the hang of it. The track should be drying after a bit of minor rain over the weekend so not sure how we are still on a soft 5 today. The rail is out eleven metres for the entire course with the first race to jump at 1.03pm.

Race 1: MAIDEN (2070M)

A maiden over the 2000M is not the way to launch into a profitable day so good luck if you are betting but this is one we will be staying well away from.

Race 2: MAIDEN(1200M)

The on pacers should be well suited today with the rail out eleven metres but in this race they are both out. Reconciliate however is in barrier seven and if she jumps with them she should be able to position up right behind the pace and if both The Aviator and Woodrow do a little to much work early she can pounce.

Race 3: Class 5 (1660M)

Another pretty difficult race to assess with competing form lines. A few of these were beaten by Ramp it Up who was knocked off by Laridae who does seem to be going well but been up a while and if rail is hot running on might be pretty hard to make ground. Siding with Carravilla as she will be on pace and is three from three at Doomben with success over this trip.

Race 4: Class 3 (1350M)

While I am keen to avoid those off the pace, Snitzond, Lumens Lenny and Ninjitzou should all take this up and we saw what happened with Superhero late last start and the extra 150M makes it look like his race to lose. Goes up a kilo in weight but that should not make too much of a difference here.

Race 5: MAIDEN (1350M)

Not wildly keen to jump in here but if you are keen for a bet, back the on pacers and in that case I think Boomtown Laddie is the one you should put your hard earned on.

Race 6: Class 3 (1350M)

Hopefully Ben Thompson has a pretty good day because Maragical can steal this race out in front I think. The pole draw he can control the race on this mare and she has prior from around Chief in Charge and Influential who have been good of late and prior was beaten by Blantons Run who won well at Toowoomba on Saturday night. The freshen up suits and I like the setup on what will be a drying track throughout the day.

Race 7: Benchmark 70 (1200M)

While Maranouchi was visually impressive first up I don’t think it is a one horse race. There looks like a bit of a lack of pace and Grammar Lad was a good thing licked last start so if Superhero wins earlier its one to watch. If the pace though is not on I thought Andi Don’t Care can be positioned slightly better than the two main chances and with that Dominant Darcy form being franked Saturday and and just a general great preparation she is one at an each-way price I think we can back.

Race 8: Benchmark 68 (2070M)

Well they bookend the program the 2000M plus race and we have our second one of the day here. They are all over Tenbury Wells but it is one of those with the form can go around without me at the $2.50 price. Tap High if he had of lead last start wins, but he didn’t so here we are. Mark needs to let him roll today and he should be fresh enough to give this a real sight with no weight on the back.
