Headquarters becomes the centre stage now after a couple of really good weeks at Doomben. This means Wednesday racing returns to Doomben, and with the difficulty of a bit of track bias last week, the first couple of races will be key. We will be racing on a soft 5 track and have the rail out seven metres for the entire course and the first race to jump at 12.02pm.
Race 1: MAIDEN (1200M)
First race of the day is a fillies and mares maiden and looks to be a nice one in this race. La Barrita was a bit flat last start but that race was fairly deep and she didn’t have the best run in transit. The price is short and largely built on hype but McEvoy bringing one to midweek Doomben maiden, surely it salutes.
Race 2: MAIDEN (1200M)
Pretty hard to assess this race however Rough Cause has been off the map since opening and Lang on young horse, drawn low and after four trials should be fit enough to hold these out, happy to follow the market here with lots of unexposed form.
Race 3: Handicap (1110M)
Once again similar setup most of these have had one or two runs tops and based on that I thought the Toowoomba trained Pinkish Hue was a rough hope. Was very green up the mountain but got its head down on the line, and we get Du Plessis who is riding super and the confidence of it having one start and straight to town, it’s a great each-way bet in an open race.
Race 4: Benchmark 70 (1350M)
The favourite was very good its last two starts but I cannot be jumping in at that price. The run however of Trapedo in behind Kaluakoi was very good first up, she was wide, in the wrong part of the track and still picking them up late. She will be better for that run, has a sound second up record, and the rail out should assist her.
Race 5: Benchmark 70 (1350M)
Saint Aldwyn has been flying of late and Blue Pinot always turns up but Giapponese has been great last preparation. He one two on the bounce including beating home Crash the Party and then the step up to the 1800M missed the mark again. Is good fresh and comes off a dominant trial win.
Race 6: Class 4 (1640M)
This race is an absolute lottery, I can give rough hopes to Farnborough and Krumac because I think there will be a lot of speed on particularly with Wowzino but impossible to assess happy to stay out.
Race 7: Class 4 (1200M)
Think keep this very simple. Scheherazade was a winning machine, then had a big break and has since come back and won twice, albeit not against the best fields. This is obviously the best field she has taken on but on the up and up and at the price is very backable.
Race 8: Class 2 (1350M)
This is an interesting race with no really market push. Tony and Calvin have another one in Excenia who had a run first up at the Sunshine Coast and tried to loop them on the corner but was probably found wanting a bit fresh. Will improve over the 1110M here and gets Maloney steering.
