Doomben | June 25 | Best Bets + Preview

Updated: Jun 25

We enter the final weeks of the Carnival and this is the final group 1 of the year. The weather has cleared today and the breeze it up and about as well so it will be a drying track. We will be racing on a soft 5 track with the rail out six metres for entire course and the first race to jump at 11.43am.

Race 1: MAIDEN (1110M)

There is a short priced favourite here in the first but with a few first starter and those early in the preparation happy to steer clear.

Race 2: MAIDEN (1350M)

We are siding with the favourite here in Ready For The Trip for the Gollan team and Angela Jones. He is third up here and stepping out to the 1350M where he has previously had two second places. He draws low and gets Angela Jones, who will be hunting that premiership.

Race 3: MAIDEN (1350M)

Noire Emperor comes to this race here third up and after going up to this trip last start and with a prior second behind Abender the three year old gelding for the Lockwood team looks nicely setup for this in his first preparation for the new stable.

Race 4: Class 1 (1640M)

Keeping it simple here, Maher, Angela Jones and barrier one. Back Jillaroo then load up on Coco Jamboo.

Race 5: Benchmark 85 (1640M)

Well it looked like a small and average field coming through the Sunshine Coast race leading into the Ipswich Cup, then the trifecta came out of that race. Zoology split two of them and for that reason even back in trip here, third up and with a little give in the ground he can get home for the Hulbert team.

Race 6: Class 3 (1350M)

I am completely forgiving that last run of Dream Lantern. Prior to that she had been dominant flying home and winning a few on the bounce. She will handle the surface, Huxtable sticks and she can be rattling down the outside in a race with a bit of pace.

Race 7: Class 3 (1350M)

Hoping for a double on the card for the Lockwood/Dolan combination with Victory Command here. That run was first up and he generally improves second up with a slightly better record. He will need a bit of luck from the wider draw but the finish first up suggests he can improve sharply here.

Race 8: Open Handicap (1110M)

There are a few live chances here and its largely going to come down to race shape today. The top three in Gin A Tonic, Tiger Tie and Alpha Bravo will all go forward. While Queenstar for Gollan did sit outside lead at Ipswich first up she had plenty to give late and ran away with it, and for them to go Maiden to a race like this suggests they have a fair opinion of her.

Race 9: Benchmark 70

Ellibaby looks to have the most speed of those drawn in and has won two from three fresh. If Jag can jump well and get to the fence first with her superior first up record to others in the race, she can close out the card at a nice price.
