The sun has been shining here in what has been a cracking winter in Queensland. We are blessed to be back at Doomben for this midweek meeting and with a bumper eight race card and one of own going around the mugs are up and about. We will be racing on a soft 5 track with the rail out eight metres for the entire course and the first race to jump at 12.33pm.
Race MAIDEN (1200M)
This is a pretty strong maiden particularly with Gregory Hickman bringing one up from down south and a second starter out of the Grafton carnival in The Statement. I am siding with The Statement with James Orman sticking with the ride and coming off three trials leading in and one strong start 1st up the gelding can get the job done here, particularly stepping out in trip.
Race 2: MAIDEN (1200M)
This is a really hard to race to assess particularly with a Hoysted first starter coming up at the odds on quote. I would be happy to consider Chirrup after two nice runs third up peaking in fitness but the race is pretty even, follow the money.
Race 3: MAIDEN (1200M)
A southerner starting for the Heathcote team in Outlawed has come up favourite here but in honour of our mugs Rockhampton connection Our Heart Throb can be winning here. He was bumped around down the straight in Rockhampton but kept finding and prior to that beaten home by Ammand who has since won so the form lines look strong and at the price is a definite bet.
Race 4: Class 4 (1110M)
Well what a race this is! One of the mugs favourites is back in Ned’s Gully and the form around this horse is stellar. Last run last preparation he was beaten by Irish Songs who has since won the Glasshouse and the form in that race is off a really high quality. With a strong first up record and track and distance from barrier three he will be mighty hard to beat here.
Race 5: Benchmark 70 (1650M)
This is a solid enough midweek race with a few mug favourites (I used the term very loosely) going around however this is another horse that after a bold run last start could prove too smart here. Rosovo was very good late in his first up run this preparation and with the three kilo claimer on board from a nice gate if he gets the splits he will blow this field away.
Race 6: Class 1 (1200M)
Another very much open race here and while this horse is very hit or miss I thought third up here Saweetie gets her chance. From barrier twelve Ben Thompson will be able to camp of the pace and there should be a fair bit of that and with her only win coming third up in her preparation perhaps this is the right recipe again.
Race 7: Benchmark 65 (1350M)
Well if it is not obvious what we will be backing here then it’s time to let you know. Mystic Aroma or Mysty is the mugs horse and goes to this race second up. She was actually pretty good first up seeing as she was posted about seventeen wide for the entire trip and still kept finding to the line. We have engaged the services of Bailey Wheeler with the claim and after the barrier gods finally came to the party we should be pretty handy in the run here. Negation and Enterprise Jewel look to be the main dangers but if she runs to her peak she should be winning here. LET’S GO MUGS!
Race 8: Benchmark 65 (1350M)
Lets keep this short and sweet, Baltray has form around Freedom Rally and gets a swing on Spaceship. With Ben Thompson on we will him one last chance as we have had a few cracks at him.
