Doomben | January 22

Writer: Mugs PuntingMugs Punting

Monster weekend in racing with the Magic Millions carnival going ahead and very successfully on the Friday night as well. Queensland racing continues and we are back to Doomben today for the midweek card of racing. We will be racing on a soft 6 track with the rail out five metres for the entire course and the first race to jump at 2.38pm.

Race 1: MAIDEN (1110M)

First starter festival to begin the day, back the horses drawn low and with market support here which does point to Whatta Mission but tough race with no exposed form.

Race 2: MAIDEN (1200M)

Money for the favourite here in Brazen Act and form is looking pretty solid. Was third in the MM maiden on the heavy deck and runs prior was four lengths off Give Me Space who was super in the three year old race. Happy to take the shorts here about him.

Race 3: MAIDEN (1200M)

Pretty tough race this. Siding with the Kelly Schweida trained Wynette here though with some pretty strong form lines through Autumngirl and Defiant Boom. Tiye was good in lead ups to the carnival last year but think with miles in the legs the former is the play here. Taking on the favourite first up from the Vandyke team.

Race 4: MAIDEN (1350M)

Gee whiz the favourite should win this but there zero value about it and the rest well, couldn’t back them with stolen money, happy to stay out here.

Race 5: Restricted 65 (1630M)

Well one of the greatest tipsters in Australia thinks this horse Shadow Power is simply a good thing and will relish the mile and while not at Eagle Farm today from barrier 5 with the claimer Collis on board he looks suited in a race with minimal tempo and potential soft to good conditions under hoof.

Race 6: Benchmark 70 (1630M)

Well DVD hasn’t had his Doomben record rolling much of late but Banana Slide should change that today. She was super first up off a hot tempo, came wide around the field and toughed it out to hold on from some fast finishers. She will be better for that run, and drawn low can sit just off the pace. Happy to stick with her in drying conditions today at Doomben.

Race 7: Class 1 (1350M)

Just have to be with Autumngirl here. She was dominant on the heavy deck and Ipswich and there has been winners out of that race. Being from The Autumn Sun and Cellargirl the step up in trip should only see her improve further and with barrier 4 and booking of James Orman the intent is pretty clear here, she will be winning.

Race 8: Restricted 654 (1200M)

Caspernova was utterly dominant last start but you have to take $1.50 today and yes the field lacks a bit of quality but that is skinny anyway you look at it. I thought Admonish out of a shocking trial but with two wins from three first up attempts could shock but not keen to play this race.
