Wow what a weekend and I think we unleashed a bit of a superstar in Storm Boy at the Magic Millions. It has been and crazy week weather wise and that leaves the track at Doomben on a heavy eight. As it is summer it is a later start at 1.38pm with the rail out seven and a half metres for the entire course.
Race 1: MAIDEN (1110M)
A two year old maiden to start the day, mostly unraced, no thanks!
Race 2: Class 1 (1200M)
This is another pretty tough race with a clear lack of heavy deck form getting around and it will have plenty of give all day long. Alakai Swamp was good first up and then back in trip second up and was poor but out to the 1200M and with sting out of the track happy to be with it at a nice price.
Race 3: Class 1 (1200M)
Another pretty hard race here and taking another horse with a bit of value. Shot Out will jump out of the ground early and be on the pace. She has been great in six career starts and one of those placed on a heavy track. Jag rides a front runner very well too and reads the pace superbly.
Race 4: MAIDEN (1350M)
Captain Fenkel was brave first up and now steps out in trip and draws the pole and gets the booking of the leading rider here in Queensland in James Orman. His last start was on a soft track so the sting out should assist and can be in the race for a long way.
Race 5: MAIDEN (1650M)
Another maiden, this is hard work and for that reason we are passing here.
Race 6: Benchmark 68 (1650M)
This is much better quality field and is still tough but we have a bit more exposed form. The favourite will be mighty hard to beat off that last win at the Sunshine Coast. Flying Rothe however draws five and will be closer in the run and with the slight step out and a jockey who has had success on him before he can be winning here.
Race 7: Benchmark 65 (1350M)
Keen here on the Patt Duff trained Bandit. He was really good late last start over the 1350M and sticks to this trip. He is also like Flying Rothe out of Rothesay so hopefully handles the sting out similarly. While he has drawn barrier 14 he comes into barrier 8 with scratchings so will be much handier than anticipated.
Race 8: Benchmark 65 (2050M)
Pretty keen on one here for the Waller team Demarcay. The booking of James Orman adds a lot of confidence as does the switch to Doomben with the sting out of the ground. He seems to relish it when he gets his heels into the ground. He can stalk the pace and unleash that finishing burst.
