Doomben | January 11

Writer: Mugs PuntingMugs Punting

With the Magic Millions a breath away on Saturday it is a full day of racing at Doomben with a nine race card to sink our teeth into. We will be racing on a soft 5 track with the rail out six and a half metres for the entire course with the first race is to jump at 12.56pm AEST.

Race 1: MAIDEN (1200M)

Yasmeen from the draw here with Orman on should be leading and winning but after a nineteen length 10th last start makes it impossible to take the $2.60, happy to pass this race.

Race 2: MAIDEN (1200M)

Another pretty tough race with a lack of exposed form but siding with a rough chance in Kazza’s Jet. Has a pretty good record this trip without winning and has come very close second up in the past. She should shoot forward from the gate and if she can control is out in front is a live chance in this race.

Race 3: MAIDEN (1200M)

Well we were going to be launching into one of ours here but alas gate 20 has prevented that. Another race with a lack of exposed form but Careful Missile won our blokes trial and looked pretty sharp so we can have something small on him at the price.

Race 4: Class 4 (1050M)

Jeez this is a pretty ordinary field with big meets up here in Queensland with a mere five horses lining up. The pace is drawn out with the two favourites just camping off the speed. Single memo is well proven and improves second up. Happy to side with her.

Race 5: Benchmark 75 (1640M)

Makes sense that Ghostwriter has come up favourite here after being very brave last start and only being run down late by a pretty smart on in Antino. Goldeel was good last start as well but I think the favourite will be too smart here.

Race 6: MAIDEN (1350M)

Another race with a few that are having their second start and we are siding with Kalends one of Gollan’s runners. She was super first up and the slight step back in trip should suit. She will ping the lids and go forward and that should really assist controlling the tempo and can kick away at the turn.

Race 7: Class 1 (1350M)

Well Jimmy’s Dream price is created off the back of Olentia but after last Saturdays missed kick and subsequent loss that form could be questioned however the barrier here really helps. Think we will stay out but big watch on the favourite.

Race 8: Class 1 (1350M)

Backing Gap Year here from the inside draw with plenty of pace drawn outside. With Queenslander and a few others that will burn along in front Gap Year will get the run of the race here and be very hard to hold out.

Race 9: Benchmark 75 (1200M)

Really tough way to end the day and in the spirit of finishing the day on a high it is Bundyandcoke for me. Has a superior record here at this track and trip and barrier nine gives him every chance. He can camp off the pace and unleash that finishing burst that he has at his disposable.
