Doomben | February 25

The group one racing has restarted down South and while all that is going we are back to Doomben seven race cards. The weather has cleared from a few weeks ago however it appears from track reports there is a little sting about. The rail is out four and a half metres and we find ourselves on a soft 5 track with the first race to jump at 2.16pm.

Race 1: MAIDEN (1200M)

The maiden to start the day and to be honest a lot of these races today do not have a stack of quality about them. Delicous Derek comes up here from down south and Waller has booked Thompson and drawn barrier six. In a small field with a fair few unknowns that looks like a recipe that can work but this is a follow the money affair if ever I have seen one.

Race 2: Benchmark 70 (1200M)

Keep this race nice and simple, King of Minto beat home  Aratiri , I’m Heroic and Laridae who have all been running very well since. The short quote is a little scary but Jace is flying so let’s hope the $1.55 holds up and can be a nice multi banker for the rest of the day.

Race 3: MAIDEN (1200M)

This race is almost impossible. I am leaning the way of Edge of Infinity building into this fourth up but not with much confidence. The speed is drawn out and a few unknowns with first starters lining up as well. Keep the plays small.

Race 4: Class 5 (1630M)

There are two in the market and the rest here. One of those two is Ramp It Up, one of Mozzas favourites. While he is running well without winning and does get to the right trip here he is very hard to trust. Last Command however has been going well, and recent form around Carravilla looks good after it winning on Saturday. Jace again gets the ride here and the claim which will give him every chance to notch up a win over the mile.

Race 5: MAIDEN (1110M)

Relatively open race here but with Gollan bringing a southerner in here and then getting the booking of Maloney that is enough for us. Veomas has been running well in Victoria and in a prior preperation was in behind Planet Red and Observer...which looks ok form for a race like this. Since then he has a few trials and runs but the I Am Invincible gelding can get the win today.

Race 6: Class 1 (1110M)

There will be a few that go forward here and one of them is Dismantle for Gollan and Jones. First up at the Sunny Coast did have her chance but won for the first time second up in her first preparation and after a big stint on the sidelines would ahve needed that run first up. Previously she has beaten Ser Joh and November Sun and was only about three lengths off Spicy Martini that same preparation. Looks a good race to get the winnings ways back on track.

Race 7: Benchmark 65 (1200M)

This race looks a really great setup for Shadwell Lane. First up was over the 1000M and ran on well from the back albiet on a day where Earn to Burn just controlled it out in front and was too quick for them. The filly gets to a more suitable trip here and with the services of Daniel Moor again she is the one that I am quite keen on here.
