Doomben | February 15

Well we are back at headquarters today at we don’t mean Flemington we mean the tight turning surrounds of Doomben. A classic mid-week meeting lead off by a few maidens with some classy debutants and then a few benchmarks. We are running on a soft 7 with the rail out seven metres and the first race to jump at 1:38pm AEST.

Race 1: MAIDEN Plate (1110M)

Keeping it simple early on O’Dea & Hoysted trained Hang Five, they are airborne at the moment and with the flying Ben Thompson on board happy to take the $3.25 in this race. Money will tell the story here.

Race 2: MAIDEN Plate (1110M)

The fillies line up here and there is a clear standout in Good Girl particularly after Bessmati came out today and won impressively but the early money for the O’Dea runner in She’sgottheboom needs to be respected. They should run the quinella and I think that is the play here.

Race 3: Maiden Handicap (1110M)

This maiden handicap has a couple of first starters and then a couple of sixteen and seventeen start maidens. The Gollan first starter lines up as the three dollar favourite and for that reason it is a sit and watch, best of luck to the Blacksoil bloodstock crew.

Race 4: Maiden Handicap (1350M)

Well looks like Warnie has launched into his horse coming up the short price favourite in race four here for the Vandyke stable but I am siding the master of disaster in Tony Gollan. A Call from Heaven races on the speed so gives itself every chance and stepping out in trip should help here, building the Tom Melbourne resume but gets a chance to break the maiden here.

Race 5: Benchmark 68 (1350M)

This is a pretty interesting race, there isn’t loads of depth to it but there is value. General Jubai will lead them off and give a good sight here but Soubrette should be stalking the whole way. With form around Charretera last week and prior behind Zoukina and that excludes a second last prep in behind Ingear. With a bit of pace drawn outside they should go along at a nice clip and Soubrette will use that turn off foot late to storm over the top.

Race 6: Class 1 Handicap (2040M)

This class 1 does anything but excite me, time to move on to the penultimate.

Race 7: Benchmark 68 (1640M)

Tricky little race here but the favourite in Mosshiki is doing a lot right and that includes races in behind Abracadazzle who was good last weekend without winning and prior to that was fourth behind our third placed girld in Mystic Aroma and that is superior form. Kilner on and claim engaged should be winning here.

Race 8: Class 2 Plate (1200M)

The Edmonds team have the hot pot here in Meriden Flash and the Tregea team have Quackery who has form around Sir Warwick from 18 weeks ago and that is really good lines. Drawn the outside which does not help but if the pace is on and genuine I think Quackery can be finishing over the top, outside lanes should be hot.
