Doomben | February 1

The weather is burning up here, sun has been out for days and with 35-degree stinkers on back-to-back days, the horses and jockeys will be sweating up. We will be racing on a Soft 5 track apparently with the rail out 10m for the entire course with the first race off and gone at 1:38pm AEST.

Race 1: MAIDEN (1110M)

It’s a “no run” from me in the opener. There's plenty of first starters in this, while the few with race experience haven't shown a great deal of ability. Through to the keeper.

Race 2: Class 5 (1660M)

Ghostwriter surely just leads them off and wins this. The price is absolute poison, but it will be winning.

Race 3: MAIDEN (1350M)

There is very little jumping off the page here and it is another pass race early in the day.

Race 4: MAIDEN (1350M)

I like Bright Tiara here going into this fourth up. The 1350m will really suit her here, and with that turn off foot that she possessed at the Sunshine Coast last start, if she is close enough late, she will be mighty hard to hold out.

Race 5: Benchmark 68 (2060M)

This is the classic Chris Waller Middle Distance Handicap and there is a Waller runner coming to town that could be looking to build a bit of confidence. Empress El comes here after starts at Warwick Farm and Newcastle and with only 53.5kg on the back out to a trip this looks like a classic set up.

Race 6: Benchmark 75 (1050M)

We will be following the form master in Nick Lloyd here who is chips in Lepreezy. She was a nice trial winner coming into this over Boomnova and that form is super strong for this race. She will take it up from the low draw and be winning here.

Race 7: Benchmark 65 (1200M)

The favourite here Huss on First should be winning but we would like to see black figures as the current $1.70 quote feels a bit short. With Argyle Pink drawn out and a bit of pace drawn inside her, this will set it up nicely for the Huss.

Race 8: Class 2 (1350M)

Winning form is good form and there is absolutely no reason to jump off Hill Billy Flyer. There is a lack of pace inside and with two wins at the 1300M and 1350M he is at peak fitness and will prove very hard to get past if he controls it out in front.
