Doomben | December 14

Writer's picture: Mugs PuntingMugs Punting

We are back on a Wednesday and fair to say with only six race it is a bit of a disappointing mid-week affair. The good news is though we are back at Doomben and we will be racing on a soft 5 track with the rail out eleven metres for the entire course with the first race is to jump at 1.38pm AEST.

Race 1: MAIDEN (1200M)

Pretty tough race here to start the day but Seinfeld fans everywhere will be having their hard earned on with Hello Newman lining up for DVD. All the in the name of a classic comedy and a couple of nice trials and early money happy to have him on top.

Race 2: Benchmark 65 (1350M)

Well with five dollars the field here and a few different form lines this will be a cracker. Teranga comes in with perfect first up statistics and the Matthew Dunn trained Silver Galaxy is absolutely flying winning its last two. I am hunting value and the way the Hulbert’s have been going of late My Odette is the overs. Will take this up from an inside draw and if gets some cheap sectionals with a fitness edge on some of her rivals will run a really bold race.

Race 3: Benchmark 75 (2070M)

There is a key to this race and that is the money for the Lockwood team, generally with their runners money on is really confident stable push. Isabella’s Spring was really good last start out to a similar trip and second go this preparation at this distance on the same track from a wider ally with pace drawn in will really suit. She loves this track and will be winning this one back from a Saturday race.

Race 4: Yearlings Handicap (1110M)

What a race between the two leading chances both from the Gollan yard. We are a pack of Mugs though remember, so tune into todays Instagram to get the Xmas fund rolling!

Race 5: Benchmark 70 (1050M)

Hold on Honey has been pretty impressive but the wide draw here could really spell trouble today. I am siding with the Sears trained Single Dizire from barrier five with James Orman on. There is plenty of speed in this race and I just think she can sit just off the pace and let the others burn out Hold on Honey’s key advantage which is speed.

Race 6: Class 1 (1660M)

Van Nuys was really impressive last start at the Sunshine Coast and I am really happy to have her on top again here. The big question is that track to Doomben there are huge differences in that getting back that far will give you far less opportunity to run them down here. We will need to see Okalani taken on out in front here or this will be over quick.
