Doomben August 6 | Best Bets + Preview

It has been tough weeks of late with the form harder to line up with off season racing continuing. This midweeks racing we are at Doomben again and it’s a soft 5 track to contend with.  We have eight races this afternoon with the rail out five and half metres for entire course and the first race to jump at 12.35pm.

Race 1: MAIDEN (1200M)

This looks a race in two here with the top two in the market controlling things. The Archibald runner has been up since May and while the form around him should be enough here I am siding with the Tony Gollan trained Some Style from barrier 6 with Ben Thompson back in the saddle here in Brisbane.

Race 2: MAIDEN (1640M)

This race is miles to even to be getting involved even with a few shorties going around. Use Your Illusion may be too good but I am happy to steer clear at the short quote.

Race 3: Class 3 (2040M)

I am nervous to go back to the Rockhampton form that undid it a bit last week but the favourite here on a soft track with a lot of runs under the belt for minimal success while yes coming up to Brisbane from down South is normally a good recipe I am not sure on this occasion. Okesutora however flies over this trip, handles the soft conditions and with Vitler and his claim will get around with only 55 kilograms on the back and be leading them up, looks a good recipe.

Race 4: Class 5 (1350M)

I need to have two bets here, I think Smart Action is the one to beat second up off a nice effort first up in a small field. The bigger field will assist. I will also be playing Drang A Tang who was ridden upside down last start going forward so I can back him again here for a two bet play.

Race 5: MAIDEN (1350M)

Sticking here with Kurithea, who was well back in the run last start and made the wide looping surge towards them late but clearly the 1200M was short of her best. Gets to 1350M here and will definitely get beyond that but this extra trip could see her break maiden status second up.

Race 6: Benchmark 65 (1110M)

Lady Lucifer looks a good thing here with form around Floozie last prep however it did fall apart a little there at the end of those runs. First up record sounds and get the booking of Ryan Maloney which shows a clear intent here from the stable. Deep Tiara is a has the Kurithea form if she comes out and blouses them the race prior.

Race 7: Class 1 (1350M)

Well Winona Costin is riding up here now and was superb on Ninjitzou first up for the Heathcote team this preparation. He bolted in at the Sunny Coast and that was at the short quote against inferior opposition then he faces today but was impressive none the less. From a middle alley should get a similar run in transit and will handle the conditions he faces today.

Race 8: Benchmark 68 (1640M)

Well there is an absolute hot pot here, there is a bit of talent elsewhere too including our boy Sir Carter. So give him strength from barrier 2 with the claimer engaged and a race with mixed depth who knows, would love to see him tick the mile box here today, lets go Carts!
