Doomben | August 27

After a small speed bump last week at Ipswich we go back to Doomben where we have success. We are back on a soft 5 track to start the day with the rail out seven and half metres for entire course and the first race to jump at 12.33pm.

Race 1: MAIDEN (1200M)

Pretty tough race to start the day here and I am keen to play second starter in Pearls in June for the Smith team here. She was super last starting flying home late to grab third. She draws lower here and even with the weight she will be strong late, maybe she needs further but keen to play at this price.

Race 2: MAIDEN (1200M)

Another early maiden here and there looks to be a pretty good thing in this race. Wootten Hyde was really good first up and from barrier four he will be much closer probably only one pair off the front. This will allow him to unleash that turn of foot and the step out to 1200M is the key here.

Race 3: MAIDEN (1350M)

This is another tough race and while Some Style is short here and it does appear that she may be a little scared of the post. The form last start though looks pretty sharp with a less than two length loss over this trip to Philia who as we found out over the Winter is an absolute star.

Race 4: Class 1 (1200M)

The pace is drawn inside here and is the two favourites and we will be hoping that they take each other on. Mercian had to go back last start and then was wide the trip basically out in the boondocks. This was the wrong part of the track on the day but made a long sustained run and was taking ground late. Happy to be with him second up here over further.

Race 5: Class 1 (1200M)

The favourite here has been right amongst the market the last two starts and could have just had a flat run second up. Every Heart for the freedman team is first up here and has won over this trip before, will put herself in the race up front next to the two long shots and may just be a little further ahead if Vivika is flat at all. At the price I am sided with Every Heart.

Race 6: Benchmark 68 (2050M)

This race shapes up like Tarex and Tamborine Man should lead them around the track and from barrier seven it should allow Lupine to slot in behind them and sit one out one back. He missed a lip last start over 1815M and with just a slightly more economical run here and not needing to control it he will strip fitter and will be able to go bang right over the top.

Race 7: Benchmark 65 (1110M)

Keeping it simple here, Negotiations was the Bazinga last week. We have the one week back up here, Ben Thompson on, barrier two, and slightly more weight, you just stick with and have double on what you did last week.

Race 8: Class 3 (1350M)

An interesting way to end the day. Jonny Da Wolf will lead but barrier nine will not help him at all and there is a little bit of pace drawn in. Rock the Sunrise was strong first up from a mile off them to finish strongly. He steps out to the 1350M here and is 2/2 over this trip and on a soft track so this looks like the right recipe here today.
