9 Races come to us from Brisbane's premier (by default) track right off Nudgee Road. The Doomben train station will be chocker with 13 people as crowds start to build for the Winter Carnival. #StradbrokeSeason HASHTAG.
The track presents in the Good range and with sunshine predicted likely upgraded throughout the day, Rail out 4.5m and 3 Listed Races ensures stewards are watching every jockey fail to ride mounts out then produce no report, Onya. Ignore your track reports; it will be a GOOD 3.
Race 1 brings the 2YO's together over the 1200m and they try and stamp themselves in for a big Winter Carnival. Subterranean, Warrior Hero and Tiger Heart all share favouritism. The Matthew Dunn colt returns for a Brisbane campaign after proving himself to be ultra competitive last time out against the likes of Alpine Edge, Baby Wong and company. Mr Tony Gollan leads the charge with the local brigade saddling up Tiger Heart who's bouncing out of a second behind stablemate Referro who looks a class above, Georgie Cartwright sticks as the son of Better Than Ready looks ready to make the jump to 1200m.
*Cue the Chris Waller BMwhatever middle distance staying trophy music*
Nothing more can be said about Humbolt Current, except how it's rating points never seem to drastically increase allowing it to sneak in at these BM90's every week. Seat of Power comes through the same formline after catching them all out on tempo and Romakash returns to a good track. Stardome to lead?
Nothing gets the juices flowing and wallet open like a BM75 and we have a handy field here with most of these saluting for the punters throughout their prep, the inside looks the quicker than the Mugs in the bedroom. Dreamtime and Wowsers potentially leading or sitting outside the pest Tavion Prince, Racing Paradise also knows no other way and this could set up perfect for a horse like Bering Sea to stalk the pace, but with apprentices on board you probably know the answer there.
1200m seems to be the theme of the day and the 'No Wins at Metro' Hancicap takes place in Race 4. Yes, that's what NWM stands for in your form guide.
Tardis hitting the line super impressively last start behind Fender which jumps out here, 0 wins in 12 months is the big winless elephant in the room however. Flying Crackerjack never runs a bad race and from the draw is likely to push forward. Even a jockey like Steph Thornton taking a ride on the outsider field.
Ok we've winged our way until Race 5 and we can get stuck in.
HE'S BACK... THE QUEENSLAND CHAMPION..
RELOADED...
... crickets, that thing has less chance of winning than Lucas Browne did the other night.
The Candy Man is back and he looks incredibly well placed to the win this Handicap over the mile. His competition in the market Walking Flying, is absolutely flying, but only gives him 4kg of 14 HCP points? Thankfully Baylee see it like them mugs do and is never short of telling it how it is:
"This is no offence to the opposition but he has beaten better horses than these before when he has been on song"
Olmedo continues to shoot blanks here and another overseas 'investment' Plumatic will make his QLD debut after a 14L 9th last start at Rosehill. Captivator and Barefoot come through the Mugbook and Supergiant has the ability to lead this field and sneak a return to form, which Supergiant will be seen though. Great race.
We continue the great racing with another listed race, the Princess Stakes. This race looks to be a great form race as these fillies dream of a successful Oaks campaign. Tycoon Evie has stamped herself as the benchmark and is deserved favourite. Having making it 3 from 5 this prep, beating the like of Kisukano, Mass Desctruction and Apache Chase. It’s not that simple this week though as the big guns are definitely out and about with the major stables all having genuine chances, including a bit of a smoky in this field with Force of Will having her second Australian start. We actually had some great insight lined up for the Mugs from the Hotrod Micky Rodd himself but he then decided he'd rather get sick then chat to the Mugs. Kiwis and Good tracks?
There's clusterF$#^ then there's this race, Royal Witness carries the top weight after the scratching of Capital Connection, a horse that hasn't won for gods knows when. Anyway, Gee Tee Tee returns for the O'dea Hoysted yard and things just seem to be clicking for the lads, stables flying. Sea Raider, Maozi and Miss Iano all return and all perform first up; this could almost be a F job in the quaddie.
That Rothfire form is still paying dividends, how Kisukano has opened favourite here baffles the Mugs. Simply Fly cannot do a thing wrong and gets back beyond a 1000m. Zingalong and Blue Zebra never run a bad race and look to set a solid tempo here for a horse like Andermatt. That's the kind of race this shapes to be, false favourites, sleepers, the obvious!
It's certainly the start of the Godolphin Winter assualt however, coming off a 4L 6th to Isotope last start and a 1.5L defeat at the hands of WIld Ruler the start before that it makes interested viewing to see how our local stars match up against quality Sydney Group form.
Well if this isn't a put in take out job I don't know what is. Skins looks perfectly placed here, albeit barrier 1 for a horse that doesn't show that early speed could make it a heart in your mouth watch he should be super impressive if the bar has been set for him.
Great to see Gem of Scotland return to some form last start, and with an unblemished record of making the podium at Doomben she's screaming our for a dry track which she'll get here. If you like Skins, get on now, it'll start short.
And the rest... meh
