We finally get away from Eagle Farm, but we're not sure if a potential heavy track at Doomben in much of an upgrade! Nonetheless the Mugs never give up, so we're back dissecting this tricky little card and finding winners.
On paper, it looks a straight forward favourites day, but we all know that's never the case with Brisbane Racing.
Chris Waller saddles up two runners in his weekly 2000m Brisbane middle distance handicap, the smart Blue Zebra returns for Georgina Cartwright and the Gollan Stable in a mouthwatering class against the 'Simply Flying' Simply Fly.
The Sun is shining here in Queensland, which can hopefully see this card compete within the soft range. With the rail back to the 2.5m from 10m last meeting, it will certainly help those horses who can put themselves on speed early, with the hope being that the track plays true as it continues to dry throughout the day. Hoping.
The QTIS two year old's line up in Race 1 over the 1200m. The early favourite Ahooshu bringing the North Queensland form to town. After a super impressive second behind Sweet Dolly in the QTIS Jewel 2 weeks ago, the Graeme Green stable looks to have a smart one here. Chris Munce is adamant that Military Gambler can string two together and with plenty of tempo in the 2YO division, this looks to be nice little form race going forward.
Doomben specialist Humbolt Current will look to make it 4/4 at Doomben as he takes on stablemate Alward and the ultra consistent Romakash. The weekly battle of these middle distanced handicappers is in for another exciting rendition. Cough.
David 'VanDoomben' saddles up the favourite Cloak in Race 3. After a tough race first up after 192 days, the 5YO son of Medaglia d'Oro has an impressive record 2nd up and loves the track and distance. He looks the obvious against usual suspects Foreign Territory, Barefoot and Seeingisbelieving. The one thing we know for certain here, is that Kubrick will be breaking punter's hearts one way or the other over the mile.
Race 4 sees the in form Steph Thorton (striking at 23% the last 30 days) saddle up the very smart Amiche. She'll certainly have conditions to suit but will have to be at her best to overcome a field of 11. We see the Brett Cavanough trained Fender return 1st up as he progresses to some better races over the Autumn and Brisbane Winter Carnival.
We entertain some more Sydney raiders with Express Princess taking out favoritism in the BM72 over the 1615m and with Jim Byrne booked you know that's always a push. But as good as hosts as we are up here in God's Country, she'll have it all to do from the carpark. , A packed field with plenty of chances, we get to take a good look at some horses mixing form as they look to race up through the grades.
The locals are looking to secure Race 6 for the 3YO's as Premiership leading trainer Tony Gollan saddles up three runners in the event. However the O'Dea and Hoysted operation looked to have a stranglehold on this race with the talented Better Get Set and Tumbler Ridge looking to return to the winners ring in what looks like a tricky race with the field set at $5.
If you make it through to the seconds leg of the quaddie, you'll see Simply Fly's records speaks for itself here. 6 wins from 8 starts, the 3YO has had a quiet trial since her super win in the rich QTIS Jewel race at the Gold Coast 2 weeks ago and with his sparring partner Zingalong scratched this field has shortened right up. However, when you talk Brisbane Racing you can never sleep on the combination of Tony Gollan and Blacksoil Bloodstock who are looking for win number 29 in the black and white colours saddling up Blue Zebra. The filly returns here first up over the 1050m and looks to get a dream run for Georgie Cartwright. This will be race for the form students.
Jadentom returns to Brisbane here, and Race 8 looks his to lose. The camp are hopeful this 7YO mare can make it win number 14 and press her case for a potential showing in Brisbane's premier races over the Winter.
With plenty of speed from quality horses Supergiant, Racecourse Road and Epic Girl, this could set up perfect for Jadentom, with the big IF being how that Doomben track is playing come Race 8.
Finally, we can rup into the 'Get Out Stakes'. What we're going to do here and buy yourself a dartboard,. From there, write the name of every horse on that board, then peg that dart as hard as you can. That's Brisbane Racing for you and probably your winner.
It is D-Day for a few of these horses, it'll be a clustered, it'll be messy, horses will need luck and us Mugs will love all 1350 meters of this one.
