Doomben | June 10

Headquarters becomes the centre stage this week, its Grand Final week with the Stradbroke Handicap, greatest race in Australia in my humble opinion this Saturday. This means Wednesday racing continues at Doomben, and with the wet weather horses that suit conditions will be they key today. We will be racing on a heavy 8 track and have the rail out nine metres for the entire course and the first race to jump at 12.35pm.

Race 1: MAIDEN (1650M)

Keen to keep it simple early and just launch Bruce and Maloney. Horse comes up from down South and with some decent rain affected form, from barrier five and with the services of a senior jockey, I think the money is sure to keep rolling in here for Crusader Voyage.

Race 2: MAIDEN (1200M)

There doesn’t appear to be a lot of pace in this race which means La Profecia should lead them off and I think that means that Two Minds can sit just off the leader. Michael Rodd doesn’t ever ride full books so when he gets on one we listen. The horse has been solid in the market and with the map of the race and acceptable form on rain affected ground looks proven enough in an open race.

Race 3: Class 1 (1200M)

This race has the hot pot but with even enough form on soft I am keen to play around it. Cryptic Sound for the Lipp team was good fresh at Kilcoy running on well from the back of the pack which is not the place to be at there. She savaged the line and now stays 1200m and gets the heavy track, happy to play at the each-way price.

Race 4: Class 1 (1200M)

Moshulu Spirit bolted in on debut on a Soft 7 at the Sunshine Coast, absolute launch job this.

Race 5: Benchmark 70 (2060M)

All Kinds of Folk comes through the BM78 in behind Express Payment who ran very well again on the weekend. This horse has two wins on soft ground and Ben Thompson jumps aboard for Todd Pollard here. Captain Maverick is interesting but he has had his chances and cannot go again.

Race 6: Class 2 (1650M)

A really open class 2 over the mile here with plenty of exposed form but no massive standouts. Leaning the way of San Gabriel for the Heathcote team who was ok fresh, then made ground up the inside and half looked the winner at a price second up, this rain affected ground is a huge tick and honestly for a $10 shot looks just about a good thing.

Race 7: Benchmark 78 (1110M)

Simple strategy here, jump, lead and win Jace on Cindersea. Will get through the track and just prove too quick and too fit for them.

Race 8: Benchmark 78 (1350M)

This is just about a field leg for the quaddie but if you have to bet, split it between I’m Heroic, Yoshino and Ocean Alps, best wet trackers here and by this stage in the day who knows what the condition of the track will be like.
