Rocky 20/7/21

Six races will be run and won at the greatest track in the world this afternoon - Rockhampton. The track is a Good 4 and the rail is out 5m from the 1000m to the Winning Post and 3m for the remainder of the course.

A nice 2&3YO Maiden kicks off the afternoon and there are two that we are keen on. Irrupt has been racing in some tougher races in his short career to date, but has been figuring in the finish on the back of back-to-back third placings. His last start third on Newmarket Day behind Hamlet Von Snitzel reads well for this, but the map is the only query from barrier nine. Backing him to win at the $2.40, and having an each-way play on the 2, River Daisy. Her first start at Mackay just looked like it wasn't there to win, with the apprentice opting to go for her goggles rather than the whip in the straight. There has already been some good money for this filly, and with McGillivray taking over from Alisha Donald from a great barrier, the money may well be spot on. Take the quinella too.

We have spent most of the bank in the first, so we will sit out in races two and three, and leave us with some coin for a decent maiden in the fourth. One More Field has had six starts for three minor placings, with all three runs this prep coming behind some handy ones. Second-up, he finished under 4L behind Boona Boy who won a decent race at Mackay on Friday, before he went on to run second at this track on June 25, beating home subsequent winner Prince of Morocco. McGillivray on again from barrier eight should see him push forward and find the front and be hard to catch.

Two even money chances will contest the penultimate race, but we are siding with the firming Sirfina for Tim Cook and Ash Butler. The four-year-old has had four starts at Rocky without winning, but his form here is always solid with three minor placings. He should have an uncontested lead from the inside alley, while Pitchfork who debuts in CQ from NSW, will have to overcome barrier seven. Probably another safe quinella play here.

In the last race of the day, we are going back to the well, and this will be for the very last time. Hinvictus has been one we have been on all prep - five starts for FIVE MINOR PLACINGSSSSSSS (there's only so much one mug can take) - but he finally draws a good barrier in a race with plenty of speed. Marnu Potgieter's 2kg claim gets him in with 56kg which will be the least he has carried this prep. He may just be a non-winner, but every time he has been beaten, it has been to a handy sprinter (Avocado Sunset, Grandioso, Hiflager, Arzani...).
