Well Mugs, it's Thirsty Thursday which means there is eight races at Rockhampton to get our teeth into.
GOOD 4 (Obviously - it's CQ) and the rail is out 7m.
The first race has a horse who had 'BACK ME NEXT START' written all over him, but apparently every bookie in Australia saw the run of Tabman and he's been put up at WINX ODDS. $1.26?!?!?! Spare us.
The second race is another maiden over 1200m and again we are not keen to play, so over we pop to the third.
Ahooshu brings Sweet Dolly form to Rocky and after his dominant 2.5L win at Mackay last start beating Fire King, there is no reason why he doesn't do it again. Drawn out in barrier seven, Whiteley will take him to the front which will be a big advantage with the rail out and he should just be too good. He has to carry 60.5kg, but he's no stranger to that.
It's a pretty slim day at Rocky, so we jump to the sixth race, a Class 6 over 1500m. Srini is up three grades from a Class 3 to a Class 6 but he drops 5.5kg and has run well at this level earlier in the year to suggest he can be competitive. The Adrian Coome-trained runner will also have to overcome a wide alley, but with our man Wiggo in the saddle, he should still get under them and have some cover which will bring him right into the race. He's a winner at Rocky in the past and the 1500m off a moderate tempo will suit.
David VanDoomben takes two runners to Rocky and they line up in the final two races. Blackboots just isn't the most genuine horse, but she should get every chance in the run from barrier one. We can't bring ourselves to backing the 5YO, however we are keen to play in the last on his other runner.
Night Express started favourite in a Listed race at Morphettville in April last year after a 4L win at that track the start prior. Her Southern form dropped away quite a bit since then, which has seen her transferred to Vandyke's stable on the Sunny Coast. In her two runs up that way she has finished fourth - ridden differently both times. She has to overcome barrier 11 again, but she will go forward under Jag Guthman-Chester who is riding very well. She should find this much easier in Rocky.
