It's the first meeting at Rocky since the Cup Carnival a fortnight ago, and it's safe to say the quality has dropped off greatly - just like when Bean isn't on the podcast. We're on a Soft 5 and the rail is out 4.5m the entire, with the first set to face the starter at 1:04pm.
Race 1: Class 3 Handicap (1600M)
Ultimate Outcome looks the one to beat, bringing some decent southern form behind King Yoshi, Castillian and Becamo in three runs this prep. He should peak here fourth-up here.
Race 2: Maiden Plate (1200M)
Staying out. Rum Rumble is hard enough to beat, but I'm not keen to dive in at the shorts.
Race 3: 2YO & 3YO Maiden Plate (1200M)
Kendrick can make it a winning double early in the day with Turbo Torque. He's chased some relatively smart opposition in three runs in the South East, starting single figures in his past two. I liked the trial behind Luva Flutta, and his form should measure up here.
Race 4: BM58 (1400M)
Having something each-way on Tiszo Fab fourth-up for the new stable. He won three races in Victoria, which is usually a good form reference for CQ. He chased home Lone Artist here over 1300m last start, but he was a month between runs and it was short of his best. He can settle closer from the low draw and be thereabouts in the finish.
Race 5: Open Handicap (1050M)
This is the best of the day. Alloutatime was terrific last prep, strining three wins together in slick time. She failed in a run at Eagle Farm and then got the stitch with a big weight at the end of the prep. She trialled sharply, arrives here fresh with no weight from a low draw, so I expect her to be too good for a field that is past their prime.
Race 6: 0-55 (1050M)
A bit like Race 2 here. The favourtie looks too good, but I don't want to take $1.40.
Race 7: BM68 (1200M)
A Kendrick treble is on the cards. Nightstick looks the one to beat in the last, coming here first-up off a good trial against Open horses. He won on Boxing Day at Caloundra in this grad, before running in a strong BM70 behind Banana Slide and then holding his own in an Ipswich Class 5. Much easier here.
